We were out in Excelsour Springs for a little business and after conducting it we asked where is a good place to eat , they replied instantly with WABASH BBQ . Well i do some smoking of the BBQ myself and all BBQ is good but we were looking for a GOOD HOME TOWN PLACE that had HOMEMADE FRESH TENDERLOINS . Well we found one HERE !!
THE Atmosphere is that of a OLD TRAIN STATION , cause that is where the place is , in a old train station , although it looked like it needed a freshing up , so to speak , the food and service were supperpurb , We arrived at NOON straight up and of course we expected it to be busy , which it was. most of the tables were full of people we found a avaliable table and sat down , the waitress came over immediately and wipped off the table and gave us menus , asked what we wanted to drink and get our drinks right away , they kept her very busy as she was the only server / cashier working , ohh they have two sides of the station , one for smoking and one which is no smoking , luckly we walked into the no smoking side , the waitress on that side came to take our order , i asked what is good , duh everything ...its BBQ !! , so i asked her what do YOU reccommend she says "I like the JUICY TENDERLOIN " , i answered back thats why we came , we were wanting a good tenderloin sandwich and fries , as we were waiting for the food it gave us a chance to check out the old station , we looked at the beautiful deco detail of the woodwork inside the station , it all looked older than dirt itself in good condition but old , say 20-30 era really nostelgic so to speak. We got our food in a matter of a few minutes and proceeded to eat it right up , not waisting any time , hey we were hungry , no breakfast that morning. As we ate our lunch the waitress came back a few times to ask how it was and if we needed anything , ohh when she did bring our food she also brought with her , honey mustard , mayo, and there was ranch dressing and ketcup and Wabash BBQ sauce on the table to be used for dipping or whatever . so we had everything we could ask for. The FOOD WAS GREAT AND THE SERVICE WAS GREAT ALSO < IT WAS BUSY AND IT WAS GREAT !! unheard of usually but a norm here it appeared , HERNY T"S in Topeka needs to take a few pointers from this place, This was a good place to choose to stop at and a good value for our hard earned money , WE WILL GO BACK !! I SUGGEST IF YOU LIKE TENDERLOINS TO GO HERE and give it a try BEST TENDERLOIN I HAVE HAD IN YEARS !! WIFE SAID SO TOO! WE got in the car and she kept saying were coming back here and cant wait till we do!!

This is a great place to eat. I ordered a small sandwich and it had so much meat on it that I couldn't eat all of it. I will eat there again when I am in the area.

Food was average, service was OK, prices were high. ANY party with more than 6 will be AUTOMATICALLY charged 18% extra for tip, even if you have seperate tabs! So, even if your service was subpar, you still have to give like it was excellent.

After reading the reviews here, we decided to check it out. The train station atmosphere is fun; there's certainly nothing elegant about it. The staff was friendly and the beer was cold, but service was a little slow. The food was good--the meat was not overly warm, which may have been due to trying to reheat it, but there was a ton of it. Overall, it wasn't a bad experience. I'd probably go back if I was in town again.

Located in an original train station, Wabash BBQ is worth the trip off the "beaten path" of Highway 65. Our favorites among their specials include "Fireman's Favorite" - one-half pound of tender, well done brisket chunks ("burnt ends") which are done to perfection, and "Short Stack" which offers a large helping of smoked brisket, ham, turkey, sliced pork or pulled pork -- all with two sides (I LOVE their baked beans!) and their signature BBQ Sauce, of course! Service tends to get poor when the restaurant is busy and the place has the ambiance of, well, a train station waiting area. It can get very noisy. But the food makes it worthwhile, and if you don't want to wait, you can order to go!
