Me and the Weevil went down to RR this past saturday to do a little day hike; turned into an all day 8 miler and still didn't see all the trails. Started off on the Deer Leap short trail above the hatchery, and what a view from up there! Next was Devil's Kitchen trail, which is awesome, especially if you find the goat path above the formations and see it all from above. After a quick lunch (which you should bring with you or have to drive back to cassville for food) we hit the Eagle's Nest trail, which lived up to its name in that we saw several pair. Only met one other hiker, so I'd say january is a great time to go. Still have to hit the Firetower trail on the next trip. Not much fish being caught that day, but that is pretty unusual.

This is a place I've visited as often as possible my entire life. Very interesting pool which a large spring feeds, and the growing ponds for the Rainbow Trout is right beside it. Also great rainbow trout fishing within the park if you are interested.

The fish hatchery is the best. Everyone like to feed the fish and watch as they swarm the food. Well-behaved dogs on LEASH allowed. Several nice picnic areas, good fishing. .......................

Set in the beautiful Ozark mountains this park has an unusual surprise of a trout hatchery. The water comes out from an underground spring in massive amounts of cold water and they release trout that can be caught right there in the park. You can buy a cheap 3 cay fishing license in the office. They have fishing gear for sale but its a bit overpriced so bring your own. Campout and dine on your fresh catch.
