“Camping at the Cape”
Reviewed June 13, 2013

We camped here in a motorhome & the site was completely level, no adjustment necessary. The people are very friendly & the park is clean. The only thing it lacks are trees! The Wi-Fi worked well. We would definitely stay here again.

We were happy to have found a campground near Cape Girardeau where we were meeting family for a brief vacation. The receptionist was friendly, asked what we like to do, then offered suggestions, & had a nice display of brochures from which to choose.
There are 12 tent camping sites. They do have a water pump & electricity, but we found out that you need to ask for a fire ring at the office. We found out too late to make use of one. The receptionist said to take a look at the sites, & call her when we chose one. The sites are quite small & only #s 1 + 12 would fit our tent & kitchen fly; the main road for the campground is right next to the tent sites. Since #12 was taken, we chose #1. It is closest to the bath house, but about 50 ft. from the trash bin. Fortunately, there were no odors during our four nights there. Also, the sites were located by trees, but next to a deep, narrow ditch; watch where you walk at night. The bath house had four private rooms, each with its own sink, toilet, and shower stall. There was a paper towel & hand soap dispenser by the sink & a large, deep plastic wall mounted container for bath items in both the shower/sink area. There is an electric outlet with two receptacles. The shower head was a bit piercing, but lots of hot water. A towel bar is available, too. The rooms were cleaned & disinfected every day. The grounds manager was very proud of his work & it showed.
There are 90 RV sites (gravel base) with full hook-ups, 50/30/20 amp with CATV & Wi-Fi, & pull throughs. They are pretty close together & no big trees, so it's very open. Other amenities include a Rec. Center, small store, game room, mini golf, two acre fishing pond, outdoor swimming pool, playground, laundromat, & access to the six mile Cape LaCroix Recreation Trail. There are several restaurants within walking distance (Subway, Mexican) & food stores & gas stations nearby.
This is one of those campgrounds that is innately noisy. There are long-term campers here; people work nearby & reside here. Therefore, there is a bit of an exodus M-F, & they drive right next to the tent sites to do so with their diesel engines. A car wash next to the entrance adds its own sound that echoes down. A fire station is nearby & active. Kingshighway & I-55 complete the auditory invasion.
I appreciate the fact that there were tent camping sites, but this is definitely an RVers venue. Also, the Cape Girardeau police would drive through & make their presence known; I'm sure this discouraged any funny business.
The best part of this facility is the grounds manager. He greets you, engages you in conversation, is always busy sprucing things up, & treats the park as if he were mayor of a city he loves. He deserves a pay raise & terrific benefits.
