Cliff Lodge is just THE place to stay in the Gansbaai area. Everything is just perfect: from the moment you book until the time you check-out, Gil, Gideon and the entire team at Cliff Lodge just take service to perfection. We travelled with our 10 month old and Gil and Gideon went out of their way to make us feel at home and enjoy our holiday. Everything was tought of: the restaurant reservation, the little surprise at turn down service (we were honeymooning :-)), the perfect cappuccinos. When we left, Gil even gave us some dried organic mango to keep Benjamin busy on the road. Nico, the manager is also fantastic: he showed us the dolphins and the whales and explained why on that particular day there were so many of them.
In sum, a fantastic place! oh and did I mention the views? Can't get any better. Best land-based whale watching in the world.

As my friend and I stepped in at the Cliff Lodge we immediately felt at home. We were blown away by the breathtaking views from the main balcony and our room. We could watch the whales from our sea facing room! A big Thank You to Gil, Gideon and staff for going the extra mile to make our stay a memorable one. It was an amazing experience.

I have recently stayed at Clifflodge guest house with my boyfriend and it was an unexpected positive and romantic experience.
Clifflodge is a luxurious guesthouse on the cliffs facing the ocean, the ideal place to relax and do whale watching. You can watch the whales from your sea-facing room or from the main balcony. The view is really stunning, especially during the sunset. You can have your breakfast or your aperitif watching the whales.
We were a little bit disappointed with whale watching in Hermanus but Clifflodge and De Kelders cliffs in general offered us wonderful whale spotting.
Everything in Clifflodge is taken care of down to the finest detail and the owners do their best to make your stay memorable. They were impressively gentle and generous with us. Just read the Clifflodge website and you will exactly find there what they promise you.
Absolutely a place to go!

This wonderful B&B would be worth visiting just to enjoy the breathtaking views. It is one of the most perfectly situated places we have ever stayed in. But what makes it truly wonderful are the people who run it, Gideon and Gil. Their commitment to the well being and comfort of their guests is outstanding. The term "service" is inadequate to describe how well they are interested in your well being. We were there for only one night, unfortunately, as we made out way along the Garden route. I wish we could have stayed a week. Watching the sunset, with the whales in the bay below us, and excellent drinks in our hands, was one of the truly great travel experiences we have had. Thanks, Gil and Gideon.

Let's begin with the bottom line. It is an excellent lodge with fine suites, and also offers an excellent service. The hospitality of the hosts: Gideon and Gil, is so wonderful that you immediately feel like home, just with a better view of the ocean. They are very helpful in every aspect, for example in suggesting restaurants for dinner including calling for the order, helping with hiking in the surroundings, etc. They are just wonderful. The lodge constitutes of a whole house in De Kelders (the superb suburb of Gansbaai). It has a living area that is common to all suites, a kitchenette that can be used by the guests mainly for drinks and cookies, a computer area for access to the net including a desktop, a beautiful terrace with tables for breakfast and breathtaking view of the ocean. These are the public areas, the house also includes the suites and offers car parking just outside so you don’t have to roll your luggage too much.
We've stayed in the East and North suites that are basically a 1 bedroom suite with fantastic shower and a balcony to watch the ocean. When I’m referring to the ocean, you usually are looking for whales and dolphins, but the view is very beautiful as it is. The team is also great with Nico leading the breakfast. He is very nice and he was able to show us packs of dolphins during breakfast that is served on the terrace. It has a very modern look while maintaining comfortable facilities. Everything is well equipped and you'll find the beds, tables and closets very clean (not obvious in other facilities). You'll feel very pleasant to return back from a full trip day.
The suites are not equal. They differ by size and field of view to the ocean. The price is also changing accordingly so if the ocean view from your room is significant to you, we’ll better pay the premium cost.
All in total - a magnificent place and service with good value for your money. We highly recommend it.

Room Tip: A suite with better ocean view
