My husband and I LOVE twinOak Wood-Fired Fare! We first visited for Valentine's Day 2012 and fell in love with the Island Time pizza. We have been back about a half dozen times, and have brought friends along a few of those times to share the wonderful food. TwinOak's menu is really built around specialty pizzas, like Island Time which features pulled pork, cilantro, carmelized onions, red bell peppers, BBQ sauce and a mango salsa that is to DIE FOR! We have also tried The Jerk, a jerk chicken pizza, the Italian Stallion (italian sausage), the CluQ (BBQ chicken pizza), Loco Taco, and Bleu Buffalo (Buffalo-style chicken) and nothing's been a disappointment although we obviously enjoy some better than others. If you're not into the exotic, you can build your own pizza as well. The pizza crusts are nice and the perfect "hand tossed" breadiness. This is not St. Louis-style cracker thin crust. All pizzas are wood-fired which, in my humble opinion, is really the best way to cook a pizza.
There are some non-pizza menu items but we have not tried any of those, with the exception of the chicken wings which are tasty but not spectacular. I really enjoy the Pizzalad, a salad of mixed greens, bacon and almonds tossed in a vinaigrette dressing and served on top of a small garlic pizza crust. This is large enough to share with 4 for a small appetizer or stuff yourself for a meal. It is one of my favorites!
The last thing worth mentioning about twinOak is their beer selection. You will find a great selection of local, craft beers from breweries such as 2nd Shift, Urban Chestnut, O'Fallon Brewery, Perennial Artisan Ales, Ferguson Brewing Company, 6 Row, Morgan Street, and Civil Life. These are some of the best craft beers in St. Louis and it's great to see local restaurants serving these wonderful local beers from craft breweries!
