My husband and I were completely disapointed when we walked into our room because it was NOTHING like the pictures we saw online. The pictures showed a rustic nice hotel. Our room was nothing more than a cheap motel. It was not at all rutic, it was tiny and it was noisey. Upon arrival we were excited, the main building where you check in was more than we expected, but then sent us away from the main building to building #5, where our room was in the back and opened to the outside. The outside had a "logcabin" look, but that was all the rustic there was to our room. The room was clean, that's the best I can say for it.

I have to admit I was nervous about staying at the Westgate after reading some scary reviews here. My husband and I arrived on October 10. We booked through a timeshare promotion. For $79, we got 2 nights stay, 2 Silver Dollar City tickets, coupon book, and $60 gift certificate for dinner! We were also very nervous to sit through the presentation, we had done one once before a few years back, and were treated like second class citizens. That is putting it nicely. More on this later.

Okay, we had to check in at a welcome center to receive our tickets, and certificates for dinner and other things. The ladies were very nice, and efficient. We were off to a great start!

Arriving at Westgate was great. The property is beautiful. They have the cutest cabins! You'll see those as you drive to the main office. We passed the motels we would be staying in. They were cute as well! From an outside view, I was happy with what I saw.

Check in was a breeze! The guy was very nice, and we were out in about 10 min. tops! And this was at about 4:30. So you would think they would be a little busy, because check in starts at 4:00. Everyone in the lobby was being handled quickly. So far so good!

We were staying in building 7. Our room was clean. Plenty of towles, little soaps and shampoos. We did prefer a king, but I forgot to mention it. So we got 2 queens. That's okay no biggie. For 79$ for our entire trip, we were very pleased!. All the fixtures in the bathroom were shiny. Floors were as clean as to be expected. Large fluffy pillows, and the bed was comfortable enough. The room also had cable. We loved that because we like to watch tv right before we sleep. The room had a hair dryer, coffee maker, iron and ironing board, and the most useful things were a microwave and fridge! We like to bring juices, sodas, sandwiches, and snacks with us on long trips. We are from Independence, MO so we like to travel prepared. It was sooo convenient to be able to transfer our food to the fridge on arrival.

The rest of our trip was great, I won't go into our visits to area attractions.

We had to do our timeshare tour on the last day. We were DREADING it!! TO our surprise our sales person was VERY good! Treated us like normal human beings. Wonderful to talk to! We were not going to buy that day, but we did purchase a vacation at a deeply discounted rate. Not bad! No high pressure here! We were out in a little less than 2 hours. Wonderful.

I know that there are probably some sales people there that are jerks, but ours was awesome. Dan was his name.

We did not utilize the indoor swimming pool, or breakfast. So I cannot offer any opinions on that.

All in all we had a great weekend for the money! Very pleased. If you book through a timeshare, you will be staying in the motel part. It was clean. Had everything we needed. Also, the maid service was excellent. When we returned from Silver Dollar City our beds were perfect, all soaps were replaced. All towels were replaced. No complaints!

We have stayed at The Woods several other times. It has been several years since we last stayed. The rooms are in need of refurbishing. The staff needs to attend a workshop on customer satisfaction. What used to be a complimentary breakfast is now charged a flat fee for. We were disappointed in the accomodations. I reserved a room with a king bed and we were given a room with two "queen" beds. They were not true queen size. Just a standard size a bit longer. The room had a chemical smell from the cleaning agent used. So while we got the non-smoking room we requested we were overcome with the smell of chemicals. The water pressure was terrible.
Probably our last stay at The Woods.

We have just returned from a week end at the Westgate Branson Woods. The greeters in the Welcome Center were exceptionallly nice and helpful. Taking their advice helped us avoid future traffic and shopping problems as we manovered through the city. The hotel was very nice and the breakfast service was adequate for our needs. Our grandchildren stayed next door and enjoyed the swimming pools.
We stayed just across the road from the outdoor pool and had access to all amenities in close walking distance.

The tour and sales presentation lasted a little longer than the stated 1 1/2 hours, but our sales rep was congenial and signed us off without arguement, after about 10 tries to get us to buy. He finally saw that we REALLY, REALLY couldn't afford that lifestyle.

Overall I would say the weekend away with the grands was worth the 2 hours of sales pitch. Besides, we knew when we went that we would not buy, so no biggie! We're just thankful we had very clean rooms that smelled good and were cooled well on a very HOT weekend.

We would definitely do it again (in a few years) ;-) But not any time soon.

We would recommend it to our closest friends, but tell them to make up their minds before the sales pitch begins.

We took advantage of a $99/4-day/3-nite offer. We arrived on Tuesday, and the check-in was problem-free, altho' we did go directly to the resort, instead of stopping at the Welcome office, which we did later and there were some problems. The room, in a motel-like building, was very small and crowded, altho' appeared to be clean. Noticed that the wallpaper was starting to peel in the bathroom, the popcorn ceiling was missing good sized chips around the ceiling light fixtures, and there was green paint spray on the off-white walls, as if someone had stood something up against the wall and spray-painted it. Also the AC unit had only 2 speeds, on and off, altho' the temp control did work.

The next morning was when the problems started. A workman knocked on our door at 9am to say that they were going to painting the outside and was that okay with us? Huh??? So my husband said it was okay. 15 minutes later the maid knocked at our door to ask it she could service the room. We weren't out of bed yet. My husband told her we would be gone by 11am and to come back then. By then we were both awake so got up, did our morning stuff and opened the door to leave to discover that the door was covered with plastic taped to the frame. Finally got out the door, and asked one of the workmen how long the painting process was going to take. He indicated that he did not speak English. On our way out, stopped at the desk to find out what was going on. The women there were astonished that the painters were taping off the doors and windows on our level. One of them also insisted that all the workmen spoke English and intimated that the man I spoke to was lying. Obviously, someone was, but I'm not sure it was the painter. I told them that they were not making a good impression and I was not happy. She said something along the lines of "you're probably unwilling to move, " so I told her that I certainly did want another room, and we would check with the desk when we returned to find out what the new room number was. We left and spent the day at Silver Dollar City.

When we returned, the people at the desk then knew nothing about what happened in the AM and nothing about a new room for us. When we got to the room, it had not been cleaned. Called the front desk and did manage to get fresh towels, at least.

The next day no one knocked on our door, so we took our time about getting showered, etc, and leaving, altho' with all the trucks parked in the small lot, it took some tricky manuevering to get the car out. Got back about 4 pm and the room had been cleaned.

Fri am was the selling meeting. It was in a large room with a high ceiling, loud music, and about 40 people talking loudly. After an hour, I had a splitting headache and had never felt so assaulted. These people put car salesmen to shame. It was very hard sell. When we said "no," the big gun was brought in and offered the unit at 1/2 price! We still said "no." He looked at us in disbelief and left the table without a word. Very unprofessional. The first salesman thanked us for our time and said he would send over a woman to check us out. She showed up in a few minutes and tried to sell us a vacation package! We said "no" to that and were told to go to a desk to be checked out.
There we found out that a telephone call had been charged to our account, made an hour before we checked in. By then we were too tired to fight about it.

Okay, in the selling, they do some fancy figuring to make you think that a time share is a better buy than planning your own vacations and staying in hotels. It is not. The salesman estimated the cost of vacations over the next 20 yrs. to be double what it would really be. He glossed over the maintenance costs ($595/yr) and transfer fees (beginning at $150) to go to a different resort. What does that $ pay for? You only get one week per year at whatever resort , so you are effectively paying $595/week for maintenance!!! That's extortionate. And if West Gate owns all these resorts, what's with the transfer fee???

The grounds were beautiful, the pools looked clean, and the tour of the new condo unit was magnificent. The condos were beautifully decorated. Their plans, if completed, looked wonderful. However, the blatant hero worship of the founder, and all the pictures of him and his trophy wife with various celebrities, was nauseating.

The whole experience felt sleazy and left us both feeling that we needed a shower.
