My wife and I chose this restaurant for lunch during a recent visit to Branson because of the reviews. Our first clue that great diner food was not the only product served was the hostess who seated us while singing via a hand held cordless "mike" to all present. Yes, that is right. We learned that all the staff have to audition before they can be hired at the Hard Luck. Some of the staff are between shows, some are completing careers, and some are on their way up. Each wait staff person takes their turn behind the microphone and they will even do requests if you want. This was quite a pleasant surprise and made the great food we were served that much better. Most staff have CD's for sale (this greatly improves their income according to our server who was not only a great singer, but also a great server), and you won't be disappointed in the selections you make.
The food at the Hard Luck is indeed diner food, but believe me, it is great diner food!! The burgers are huge and can easily be split making a very satisfying meal for two. We will make Mel's Hard Luck Diner a mandatroy stop during each visit we make to Branson. This is an extremely fun place, with exceptional diner food.
