We had a few hours to kill on our last trip to Branson, and we didn't want to spend a lot of money, so we headed for the Fish Hatchery with our two boys, ages 4 and 5. What a gem! There is a small nature center where you can watch a 12-minute video about how trout are raised and some aquariums with snakes (both venomous and non-venomous), a tarantula, centipede, alligator snapping turtle, and more. It's completely free and a great way to spend an hour or two with the kids. The staff was super friendly and knowledgable and took time to answer everyone's questions. After exploring inside, we headed outside and there are rows upon rows of trout, ranging from tiny ones to full-grown. There are machines where you can buy fish food for a quarter, and the boys loved watching the trout go crazy every time they threw some food in the water. We spent about 30 min. inside and then another 45 min. outside looking at and feeding the trout. Very educational and you can't go wrong when it's free!
