So many people obviously like this place and have had great experiences here that I hate to write this review after all this time, but it must be done. Our stay can be summed up in one word: Roaches.
We had booked 3 nights in the Family Apartment for our September, 2013, trip to the Branson area. The hotel is in a great location off the strip and on the right side of town to get out to Silver Dollar City in the morning. Great rates, too...it's often difficult to find accommodations for 7 at a fair price.
We got there on Wednesday night, and we had a good night. Then we get up Thursday morning and find a roach on the wall. Just one. We weren't happy, obviously, but we killed it, looked through the kitchen cabinets, didn't see any more, and figured things would be fine. Well...we get the kids in bed on Thursday night, and we see another one. We kill it and look around some more, not finding any others. At this point I promised my wife I'd speak to the front desk in the morning. Then the inexcusable happened. I walked into the bedroom across from the kitchen to check on the kids and there was a roach...on the pillow...next to my child's head. That was the last straw.
I went to the desk immediately and informed them of the issue and that we needed a different room. Fortunately, one of the family suites was not booked for the night and we got all the kids up and moved all of our stuff down there. They took an extra $5 off per night for the trouble, but that didn't feel like enough for the hassle and, frankly, the grossness of it. Also, the guy at the desk was far more defensive than he was apologetic, saying they'd "never" had a roach problem before. Whatever, buddy, that's not especially relevant to my current situation. He should have been stumbling all over himself apologizing for the situation, but he wasn't. That was pretty disappointing.
The guy also said I should have said something right away that morning, like it was almost somehow my fault. The truth is that there was nothing they could have done while we were there. He said they'd have to bomb the room and kill the roaches, which didn't sound like anything more than a temporary solution. I hope they managed to find the root cause of the problem. I saw 3 roaches...I'm going to guess those weren't the only 3 near that room.
Again, so many people love this place that our experience simply can't be the norm. The family suite was fine, but for obvious reasons we slept with one eye open until we left on Saturday morning.
The next time we come to Branson, we will most certainly be staying elsewhere. Even though they were able to move us rooms and everybody else seems to like this place...roaches are a sin that motel simply cannot commit. And not being super apologetic about it is even worse.
