“not what i expected”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 2, 2012

i had never been in a cave before and was expecting just walking around winding paths. NOPE! You walk in a HUGE room and down a super high flight of stairs. I am not a great person when it comes to heights so the first part of the tour was difficult for me. However, once walking to the bottom of the stairs the room was amazing as you are standing in a HUGE room. Once out of that room then there is mostly winding paths. Even my 3 year old was able to walk through the whole cave and enjoy the experience. If you don't do stairs, i would definitely not recommend this activity. it is almost a whole hour of walking and exploring

“If our second child had her way, we'd go thru it everytime we go to SDC”

It's fun to walk through and see what started the whole creation of Silver Dollar City. Lots of stairs so if you don't do well with stairs, I don't suggest it.

“The place where Branson began...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 12, 2012

For those who know the actual history of the area, there is no way you can NOT visit Marvel Cave. It was with the commercial use of the cave that the Branson area first became a tourist attraction. From there came Silver Dollar City, and from there exploded "the strip" as we see it today.

There are a couple of tour options, the regular cave tour and the lantern tour. For a first-timer, I'd recommend the regular tour. For someone who has been in it a number of times and is ready for a new experience, the lantern tour is an interesting, new look at an old (very old!) attraction.

The tour changes seasonally, as the water in the cave rises and makes some of the lower passages unpassable, so you are likely to have a different experience in one season than in another. If you have not had the opportunity to take the lower tour, I'd highly recommend it - just call and find out when this normally is, or you can always ask the helpful park staff inside the SDC gates.

There are some very tight passages, and I'm a bit claustrophobic, but I have been through it year after year and never regret my experience.

At the end, a pulley-system tram brings spelunkers back up to the sunlight and into the backside of the Marketplace.

As many have said, admission to the cave is included in your ticket to Silver Dollar City and the only way to see one of Southern Missouri's best caves. I highly recommend it!

“Very interesting and fun”

Part of the Silver Dollar City complex and included in the ticket price. Lots of stairs but worth the hike. Pay the extra and take the lantern tour, it is really fun.

“Marvel Cave Lantern Tour was Very Cool”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 28, 2011

We have visited a number of caves before by jeep, inner tube and boat, but this was our first lantern cave tour.

Caves are cool, but don't they all look somewhat the same after a while. Yes, some have very spectacular structures, but I like the lantern tour here at Marvel Cave. You won't see the huge rooms or the natural structures within the cave because its so dark. But that is what makes the tour so cool. It's all very dark and you go with a small group by lantern. Strange stories are told by the guides about the recent history in the cave. Parents with small children that are afraid of the dark should be cautioned. And those that need assistance walking should also be cautioned about the many steps going down. I think there are about 600+ downward steps on this tour.

If you want to see spectacular cave structures then you might be disappointed, but if you want to listen to some good stories and walk through caves in the dark, then the small fee is definitely worth it.

Regular tours for free are available with a Silver Dollar City pass, but you'll go in groups of up 60 people. At this time, I have not gone on a regular tour, but I do recommend this lantern tour. The tour lasts 90 minutes.
