“Historic and a little bit hip”
Reviewed June 28, 2013

It is interesting to compare two historic mid-Missouri hotels 40 miles apart, the Bothwell in Sedalia (1927) and the Frederick (1905) in Boonville. Both have been beautifully restored, the Bothwell with humble fidelity to the original character, the Frederick with some audacious, avant-garde aberrations. We found the Gabbeh rugs from the Zagros Mountains of Iran a delightful complement to the heavy original woodwork. On the other hand, the large room we stayed in had no separate room for the shower, toilet and sink, instead just a see-through enclosure of etched glass. Some patrons may find this cool and sexy. I'm old-fashioned enough to prefer the toilet walled off for privacy from the bedroom (as it appears to be in other rooms of this hotel). The staff were friendly and helpful, seemed a little more aware than necessary of what a chic establishment they work in. Breakfast was simple but ample, and came free with the room. The hotel restaurant, Glenn's Cafe, looked promising but pricey. For dinner, we strolled a couple of blocks along the riverfront to the excellent buffet in the casino.

Room Tip: Website shows photos of different rooms. Probably a good idea to pick one you prefer and ask for it.

We were planning a quick girls getaway and planned to meet in nearby Rocheport (as some friends came from KC and others from STL). The B&Bs were full for a group our size and we stumbled upon Hotel Frederick which is just down the road from Rocheport. The hotel is cozy, clean, friendly and has lots of personality. I was worried with it being "historic" the rooms might be rough, but the beds were really comfortable and we loved it. We stayed in one of the suites. We did go in to Rocheport to the winery to eat, but the little downtown Boonville had several cute restaurants/cafes that we could have tried, too. Nice for a little getaway!

The only thing good about the hotel was the bathroom, they had really fancy glass doors and a cool whirlpool tub. The bad - EXPENSIVE - they charged us $241 for ONE night at this hotel. Poor Service - When we got there at around 8 AM the lady was very rude stating we could not check in until later in the day. We went for a 30 mile ride on the KATY trail and explored Boonville a bit - got back around Noon, lady stated it was still too early to check in. Had to check in after 4 PM that day. She was very rude about it, almost like a "why do I have to do this for my job" attitude towards us. For $241 a night, they don't even give you hot breakfast like a Super 8 does. You can make your own waffles at places that charge you $90/night or less. Pitiful. All they had was pastry - croissants, bagels, etc; hard boiled eggs, juices, cereal, and milk. The coffee was bland and had no flavor at all. The rooms have terrible insulation. At midnight me and my wife were woke up by what sounded like someone doing a remodeling project on the floor above us, when in reality it was probably someone having sex. They had a conference room which was right across from us where they had some sort of conference and the people were partying / talking until almost 11 PM. I would never stay here again, felt like I was completely ripped off. I do not recommend this place to anyone else. The only reason why I was suckered into spending $241 for a night at this place was my wife had a friend who recommended this place and it was our 1st anniversary weekend.

We spent the nite after biking up from Sedalia with two other couples. The location of the hotel is perfect and the staff very courteous. They were kind enough to store our bikes in the basement for the evening. The hotel is very quaint and clean. When booking your room please review the rooms on line first. There are so many different styles and sizes of rooms. The patio bar overlooking the Missouri River is special. It is within easy walking distance of really fun restaurants in the downtown area.

We just happened onto the Hotel Fredrick last night, and we had a wonderful stay. We like to look for old, locally owned hotels. The Hotel Fredrick did not disappoint. The lobby was nice and inviting, the room was beautiful. Just the right amount of old charm (beautiful antiques ) and modern conveniences (wonderful bathroom, flat screen TV and wi-fi). Yummy chocolates in the room, hand made natural soaps, even ear plugs to help light sleepers ignore the floor squeaks. It was a wonderful night.

We stayed for the Pedaler's Jamboree. After biking 30 miles from Columbia to Boonville on the Katy Trail, we were in the mood to relax a bit before the concerts started at Kemper Park. The claw bathtub hit the spot. Our room was very well kept and had a unique, welcome personality. The sheets and bed were so comfortable. The staff was excellent. We will definitely stay here again and have talked about coming back to Boonville just to stay at the hotel again.

Visited the Frederick Hotel in downtown Boonville, Missouri where our friends were staying for the night. I had been in the hotel lobby on prior visits to the restaurant (Glenn's Cafe) located there which is delicious. It is conveniently located to the Katy Trail which was the reason for our visit. The rooms are beautifully remodeled and the hotel has maintained it's historic feel. The front desk staff was friendly & accommodating. Our friends booked a room for next year!
