“A lovely, relaxing break”
Reviewed August 22, 2017 for a stay in August 2017

This is a beautiful, thatched cottage in a friendly village on the Bucks, Northants, Oxfordshire border. It was nicely decorated and furnished, and the beds were very comfortable. I stayed for three nights with my sisters for a relaxing, catch-up time. We walked through the lovely Evenley Wood Gardens, visited the Antiques Cellar in nearby Brackley and had a day out in Oxford. The cottage has a very well-equipped kitchen and we also had an excellent meal in the village pub. Thank you to Alistair and Christine who were on hand with help and advice. I would definitely recommend a visit.

“Could have been so much better !”
Reviewed August 13, 2017 for a stay in July 2017

This cottage was situated in a lovely village just off the village green where you could watch a game of cricket at the week end. It was near beautiful places such as Oxford and the Cotswolds, shopping centres such as the designer outlet in Banbury and Milton Keynes and stately homes such as Cannons Ashby and Waddesdon Manor and within easy reach of London and Stratford upon Avon. However the cottage did not live up to its location. It's outside space was so overgrown it was unusable and prevented light reaching the cottage. It was not possible for the 4 of us to sit outside without blocking entry to other houses, though 2 rusty chairs and a table were available outside. Lightning was poor downstairs and it was not possible to read or sew without getting a headache. The kitchen lacked basic essentials such as a tin opener, potato peeler and tea pot. I also had to go out and buy a cafetière, a bowl and whisk and baking dish. The cottage had a washing machine but wet washing had to be left in the lounge or bedroom for up to 3 days to dry on a cloths airer as with overgrown outside space there was no washing line. All these things could easily be rectified to make a lovely cottage, but as it stands I would unfortunately not recommend it to anyone. Perhaps I could have continuously phoned the owner but from past experience this is never a good move.

Management Response
Aug 17, 2017
We were disappointed to receive your two star rating and review especially considering the comments from all our previous guests.
With regards to the outside space we agree that the hedge is tall and somewhat overgrown and if it wasn’t there it would undoubtedly allow more light to reach the cottage, unfortunately the hedge belongs to the
neighbour and she likes it like this as it protects her own privacy.
No one has made comments before regarding putting the airer outside in the summer as it doesn’t take up much room.
You commented that the kitchen lacked basic essentials – in the three years that the cottage has been rented no one has indicated that a potato peeler and cafetiere have been essential but in light of your comments that has now been rectified. There was a tea pot but it wasn’t noticed that it had gone missing (presumably broken )
You also mentioned that the lighting downstairs was inadequate – the main lights operate on a dimmer switch, the longer you hold your finger on it the brighter the light becomes- all previous guests have worked this out for themselves.
When the owner met you on your arrival he made sure you had two contact numbers and said if you needed anything or had any problems to call- in the 14 days you were there you did not make any contact at all so we assumed all was fine which is a shame because apart from taking a chainsaw to his neighbours hedge everything else could have been resolved quickly and easily.

“Storybook Cottage perfection!”
Reviewed June 13, 2017 for a stay in June 2017

Well where do I start!... simply the best accommodation this side of the world! The owner and management are the nicest people in this business, they went out of their way to help us on numerous occasions. The cottage itself was only matched in beauty by the spirit of the hosts.. stunning!
Like a scene from a Disney movie / Storybook, set in idyllic surroundings. ..in a perfect little village.
I don't have a single point to the negative! .. a truly unique and fabulous place. . We will be back!
Thanks Christine and Alistair for a marvellous time.

“Comfy and cosy cottage in beautiful village”
Reviewed June 3, 2016 for a stay in May 2016

We really enjoyed our stay. The cottage is cosy, it's small but was large enough for us for our stay. Our children loved their bedroom at the top of the cottage. The area is very quiet and restful. Evenley village is lovely, we arrived to see a cricket match on the green in glorious sunshine! We recommend dinner at the Red Lion in the village, which has a children's play area in the pub garden. There are also great places to eat in nearby Brackley. The cottage is well placed for visiting several NT properties and gardens nearby, as well as Oxford and the north of the Cotswolds.

Reviewed April 19, 2016 for a stay in March 2016

Myself, partner and children stayed at this beautiful cottage during March, it was a cosy home from home stay. The evenly Village is also very peaceful and is in a great location.

The owner of the property is wonderful and was very helpful in attending to any of our needs whilst we occupied the cottage.

Would highly recommend
