“Wedding meals”
Reviewed May 4, 2014

We were marred 3/5/14 , and had our wedding meal at the Half Moon . We have had many good meals here , served cheerfully and quickly , with renowned good sized portions of tasty food . We decided to feed our guests here , as we knew we would get good value for money .

Starters were served quickly , good thick chunky soup , very generous portions of pasta bake , and a tasty date , walnut and stilton salad with the tastiest dressing .

Mains were similar , good portions of meat , veg , yorkshires , all served piping hot nothing was stinted . The children were well catered for with generous portions of ` child friendly ` food

And best of all , the desserts , if I hadnt been on the top table , I would have licked my plate .... just amazing chocolate trio , chocolatey and very moreish .

The staff have been brilliant , working with us to make sure that things were just the way we wanted them . Nothing was too much trouble , and everyone there commented on the friendliness and quickness of the staff .They even took our Daughters dinner till she had fed the baby , and brought it back out for her when the baby had been fed . The staff were lovely with the small children who were there , and were endlessly patient and cheerful with the younger guests .
The Half Moon really made our wedding a memorable event and we cant recommend them highly enough . Thank you

“The car park is cleaner”
Reviewed April 20, 2014

We attended the Half Moon for a family party and had booked a room for 7pm.
We arrived at 6:30 and were told the room was not ready yet so just wait in the bar.... fair enough as we were early.
From this moment on it went down hill rapidly.
The bar looked like there had been a food fight in it, there was food all over the floor, the seats and the tables.
The seats were littered with damp patches where drinks had been spilled on the furniture and what appeared to be potato had been squashed into the seat. We moved around the room looking for a dry, clean area to sit but to no avail. So we stood for the time needed to ready the room booked.
At 7 we were told the room was ready and we could move through.
Again this was stretching the truth a bit.
The room had just been vacated by the last group of people using it and was not in any fit state to be used.
The young bar staff came in with a big wooden sheet and placed it over the pool table, covered it with three pieces of cloth as they didn't have a cloth large enough to do it in one and then said they were going for the buffet.
Considering the gathering was arranged for 7 it was a bit of a inconvenience having the food brought through the assembled family in drips and drabs. The table was not set until after 8. Why it took a hour to bring a few sandwiches and nibbles through I dare not think.

As for the rest of the building, well, the toilets are, tiled, i think that is the best i can say about them. the bar staff were speedy if a little abrupt, and the manager was down right rude. He did not once say sorry for the state of the bar, the lack of preparation of the room or the lax service provided in catering.

The night spent at the Half Moon was a experience that I will NEVER repeat.

If you want a good, friendly, clean, happy and well presented night out..........GO ELSEWHERE

“Better to be In the Moon than Over It”
Reviewed April 1, 2014

The restaurant here has just been refurbished, offering comfortable surroundings as well as fine food cooked to a high standard. The staff are very friendly and efficient. The Pub side of the business is taken care of by David and the restaurant is run by Robert , the Chef, both do an excellent job. I know people who have gone here regularly over the years, which speaks for itself. Give it a try you will not be disappointed.
