We went out for Mother's Day to another restaurant (The Red House, Market Benhan) which was so awful we actually walked out. Needless to say at 3pm on Mothering Sunday we were rather doubtful of finding anywhere nice til we remembered the Red Lion Inn - we ate here a whiles ago and it was superb so we decided to throw ourselves on their mercy and they managed to fit us in with elegance. We were immediately seated and immediately struck by the wonderful warm ambience and the lovely hosts. Sensibly they had a set menu for such a busy day but it had a good range of choices. To start I had the most delicious cheese souffle, our son had Duck pate (which he declared he would have happily eaten for all three courses) and my husband had a fresh and well seasoned tomato and basil soup. We had roasts for our mains and both the port and the beef were perfectly cooked. The vegetables were gorgeous - again perfectly cooked and very tasty - cauliflower, broccoli, carrot and asparagus - a small quantity of each and separately prepared (all fresh!). And just when we thought it couldn't get better the was pudding - I had a lovely lemon tart, our son a chocolate pudding (but very light) and my husband had vanilla cheescake (it must have been good because I didn't get offered a bite as I usually would). At the end of the meal I realised that not one of us had left a scrap of food on any of the courses! I can not recommend this place highly enough and we already have plans to go back in spite of the fact it is a fair distance from where we live. Thank you so much Red Lion for rescuing Mother's Day!

Lovely setting, lovely old restaurant which had a log evening fire at the time. Not impressed with quality of lunchtime menu. Very disappointed with quality of works evening Christmas Dinner - roast turkey appeared to be equivalent to the sliced turkey that can be purchased in a supermarket.

Being new to the area we were looking for some nice restaurants and found The Red Lion Inn on the Internet and were impressed by the range of menu. Upon arriving, we were greeted by a very picturesque place. Once inside we were made to feel very welcome. Some reviews have unfairly drawn attention to the place being dated, but in my view it has character rather than lots of other places these days that all seem to be the same.
The main reason for us being there was for a meal and we were not disappointed, the food was of an excellent standard, as was the service. There is a really good choice of food on the menu so we will be back soon and would recommend it to anyone who is after a really nice meal. If you are just after a pub drink then this is not that sort of place.

Good selection of food on the menu with a couple of traditional meals for the less adventurous. Presentation and service was exceptional and the food was exquisite! We will definitely be returning here for another meal

This was my first meal at the Red Lion and it was one to remember. There was a good, balanced selection offerred by the menu which catered for a range of tastes. All of our party found something that they wanted and when it arrived they were not disappointed. The food was beautifully presented and cooked to perfection. Whilst the Red Lion is located on a quiet road it was easy to find and well worth finding.
