Great time had by 8 of us recently. Good food, great cellar and good service. It was very busy which helped the atmosphere. The landlord was happy for us to leave our cars in the car park while we cycled in the area and then returned for a meal. We will definitely be back.

As a family we've been to this pub / restaurant on a number of occasions now and will continue to do so, its very friendly and informal. Each time we've been the food has been really good, the front of house staff really pleasant and great value for money. It's a pub with a number of different seating areas, if you go in via the back door, which most people do, you first enter a very cosy room with a real fire, sofa's and news papers (just like a cosy lounge, very lived in) next there is a small bar area, where the locals tend to meet (very friendly and warming) next to this is the first dining area, its all very open plan, in a very olde wolde sort of way, this dining area has about 7 tables, all different sizes and all types of chairs, a nice real open fire and the most brill mirror you will ever see. There is a more formal larger dining room but we have never eaten in there as we prefer the cosy room next to the bar area. The food is both very well prepared and presented. Venison is high on the menu (a Red Hart is a type of deer!) the Venison burger is a popular choice ! The Red Hart is one of three restaurants we use on a regular basis. Go at least once to make up your own mind, but I'm sure that if you go once you will go a gain!

A thoroughly enjoyable experience. Any negatives - paradoxically too large portions !! Wonderful quality food. Very attentive service. Brilliant ambience. And certainly not an extortionate cost. A really enjoyable evening which we have no hesitation in recommending. We will be going again. I can only hope that the delightful lady (and her husband - the chef) gets the rewards they deserve for the enterprise they have shown.

I have been to this pub on several occasions. During the day, evening and on a Sunday. Every visit the staff have been polite, helpful and serve with a smile, which matters!

I've had the fish fingers, Rib eye steak and roast beef.

I can not fault any of the food. The meat has always been tender - its hard to find a resturant that does a good steak!

Best food and serve for miles around so thank you for making my visits pleasant and food very enjoyable.

We visited this establishment on Saturday evening. The staff were friendly and welcoming as was the atmosphere.

We visited the restaurant on recommendation of tripadvisor, as a birthday treat.

Treat it was not we had a bread platter to share very disappointing the oil dip was tastless!!!, the other starters were edible.

For main course we had 2 portions of fish and chips and Thai fish cakes all had been cooked in stale oil, it wasn't just unpleasant in was nasty, Myself and my sister has mussels from the specials menu which could have been pleasant but had been very over salted, as had the chips which came with them.

We all left food which is something we never do.

When asked if we enjoyed the meal we said no it wasn't very nice, the comment we received was oh well.

We find it incredible that such positive reviews have been posted!

Dear LegbarJill,

Thank you for your review and really feeling sorry that your meal on Saturday night was disappointing! It is a shame that me and my husband (who is the chef) have not been there that night (being away for a weekend after long-long time), so I could solve the situation. On the other case we are cleaning the fryers every week, so the oil can not be stale, we are putting so much effort to keep the whole pub + kitchen tidy!
Anyway, hope you will give it a go again in our pub, all the best!
