“A warm welcome in a stunning setting”
Reviewed August 6, 2014 via mobile

On an English summer evening, this is hard to beat, a quiet setting with a pretty garden and fabulous views south and east of the glittering sea and Dorset coast. Decent upmarket pub menu, good portions nicely cooked, and friendly hosts, made extra special by the location. A great find!

Tried calling this hotel a couple of times to book a one night stay. Said they had to check, and would call back. No call back, so called again 8 hours later, and was quoted a higher rate than shown online, and told again that they only like taking bookings for two nights, not one. Glad that business is so good that they can turn away paying clients!

So I trust the reviewer has never forget anything!.. Yes, I'm sorry we did forget to call you back, on a day we were leaving for a couple of days off, following a hectic few weeks. We regularly take one night bookings, just look at the review above. However, like all hotels we prefer guests to stay longer to appreciate the atmosphere rather than dashing in and dashing out. Our rooms are all different, so we have different prices, so there's no surprise you were quoted a different price. Just a thought, if you were offered a room on-line for a single night, as you mentioned, why did you not just book it.....so what was the purpose of your call anyway, if you had already been offered a room.

I found this place on Tripadvisor and was so glad that we did. As a young couple it was great to get away from hectic life and feel relaxed at the hotel. We were fortunate enough to have fantastic weather so ate in the pub garden in the evening and breakfast in the secret garden. The staff were all very friendly and left us to own devices.

The staff had specifically picked our room to accommodate our travel cot and still have room to spare.

My one gripe was that wifi was only available in the common room and the bar area.

I would definitely return and recommend to friends.

Many thanks for your comments, the reason we do not distribute Wifi beyond our common areas is that BT cannot provide broadband of more than 1.5mbits, at best, in this location. If we do ever get true broadband then we would distribute to our bedrooms. If we installed a satellite system, then we would have to charge for use of the broadband, as data via satellite is expensive, and it's our current belief this would give us too many problems, as people expect free Wifi on the basis of a good cable system, which does exist in most parts of the populated areas of the country. This is one of downsides of living in a relatively unpopulated area, but with that comes a unique location.

The owners have made a good job of re-vamping The Manor and the last bit of scaffolding is about to be taken down. There are lots of different options for eating - nice pub garden with view of the sea where we ate yesterday, the cellar pub, the conservatory, the formal restaurant and some tables in the walled garde. Have not seen the rooms since we stayed there a couple of years ago but the staff are attentive and pleasant, lunch was very good and West Bexington is quiet and in a super location

It was a happy chance choosing this hotel!
We had a beautiful room as did the son's family; good breakfasts and great evening meals.
The owners and staff were friendly & welcoming. Nothing was ever too much trouble.
Can't recommend it too highly!

We stayed in room 9 on the first floor for two nights. Room was spacious, nicely decorated. Plenty of hanging space and three drawers for your clothes. Three mirrors in the room plus one in the bathroom! Also had a couple of armchairs, TV, hairdrier, kettle, tea and coffee, toiletries... everything you could want. Bathroom was also roomy, with plenty of shelf space for your toiletry bag, bath with shower over and heated towel rail. Only minus point for bathroom was lack of a hook to hang clothes on. Only minus point for the room itself, only one side had access to bedside light switch, so take a torch if you want to read at night after your bed companion has gone to sleep.

Room is at the front of the hotel, over the front door, overlooking the front garden, delivery area for the kitchens, and the road down to the sea, but noise wasn't an issue. The front door was really only used at night and guests have a key, kitchen/delivery noise wasn't at unsociable hours. The most persistent noise at night was an owl hooting for about half an hour. Had a good night's sleep.

Breakfast was lovely. A buffet selection of cereals, fruit, yoghurt and pastries, and a full English and toast cooked to order. You can pick and choose what you want from the list. Portions are generous, so if you're not a big eater say you want one egg, one rasher etc.

There's a cellar bar (closed 3 to 6 on weekdays) and restaurant on site too for lunch or dinner. I've reviewed that on its own listing in the restaurant section, but in short, food was excellent quality. Extensive grounds give you three outside areas to sit in and enjoy the countryside after a day's exploring. Hotel is just a few minutes walk from Chesil Beach, and a cafe/shop, however we only found it open at the weekend. You can see the sea from the conservatory, beer garden, restaurant and some of the rooms. It's only a short drive to Abbotsbury, Bridport and West Bay, or if you're feeling energetic a short walk from the coastal path. Will defintely return for a relaxing break.

Room Tip: You can choose specific rooms if booking on the hotel's website. All rooms are different so ask...

Although we weren't staying at this hotel - we were staying in the Village - we visited twice for dinner. We were made to feel extremely welcome - we had 2 Springer Spaniels with us which was no bother to the hotel/restaurant, and on the second time we had our 1yr old grandson too - high chair provided. The food is excellent! The staff are extremely friendly and were very attentive. The menu is not overloaded with too many choices (which I like) but more than enough to have a go at... and the food is all freshly prepared and served piping hot..I had the Beer Battered Cod...mmmmmmm lovely crispy batter and a good size portion of chips and a delicious Pea Puree.. The surroundings are Idylic..with a lovely seating area in the gardens to eat out if you should choose... a good selection of beer and lovely Thatchers Cider...and a jar of dog biscuits for our furry four leggeds on the bar too...I would thoroughly recommend The Manor for dining out...
