“NIce Room”
Reviewed August 11, 2007

The room was very nice. We really enjoyed the bed. In fact, we slept so well during our stay we went out in search of a repeat of that bed for our own home!! You will sleep great. A little noise at times, especially when the room above is filling their tub. I particularly enjoyed the seated vanity area for doing my hair and makeup. The shower was also an unexpected and spacious treat , with a mirror and long shelving. The safe and the minifridge are nice room additions, too. The reception staff was so pleasant and our bellman was great. We did have to order room service, to make up for the inadequate dinner at one of the hotel's downstairs restaurants. The casino, all the casinos really, have tightened up since our last visit. Lost a lot of $$, but I remember fondly the great room at the Sheraton. The room is true retreat from the beatings in the casinos!!

  • Liked — The room is an absolute retreat!
  • Disliked — No pool, tight casinos.

Overall, it was a nice hotel. I would rate it average to above average. Not as nice as Caesar's Palace in Vegas, but better than most regular hotels. Our room was free, so how do you really complain about a free room? I like having the casino attached to the hotel, which I believe is not the case in some other hotels in Tunica. We were on the 2nd floor. The rooms are average size, but the bathroom was very large and very nice. Stand up shower, 2 sinks, large vanity and a makeup vanity with a stool. The toilet is in a room with a door, but the door doesn't extend all the way to the floor or the ceiling. The jacuzzi tub is in the room with the bed. The bathroom is separated by a glass wall. I was with my husband, so privacy wasn't an issue. But if you're modest at all, you might want to check some other hotels. The room reminded me of the room we had at Caesar's in Vegas - not as nice, but similar. The linens were average, the bed was average. It was clean. (very important!!) We did have one major complaint, though. Our particular room was next to the storage room, so we heard what sounded like a freight train rumbling outside our room. We finally figured out it was the linen carts being rolled into the storage room. The walls were very thin and the heat and a/c unit did not have an audible fan. If you like 'white noise', be sure and take your own fan or noise machine! Overall, a very noisy room. The staff were very friendly - we encountered only a few people who were not just super-nice. They could have been having a bad day, as we all do. But overall, everyone was very nice. We did run into one other 'issue'. I won't say its really a complaint, but it was rather annoying. The hotel has a TJ Cinnamon bakery. On 2 separate occasions I went to buy cinnamon rolls and they only had one left, and it would be 30 minutes before any more would be availiable. They are open all day and both times were around 10:00 or so in the morning. How are you not prepared to have cinnamon rolls continuously, especially at breakfast time? A minor annoyance, but I suppose its worth mentioning. As for the casino, we were there on a weekend, so it was crowded as expected. Fairly smokey as well. But overall, a decent casino.

THE STAFF

The staff is efficient, friendly, and helpful, check-in, casino, food service, security, housekeeping. The attitude is so pervasive that it’s obviously an important policy of the hotel.

ROOMS

The rooms are large, beautifully appointed with marble and glass, and spotlessly maintained. The bathroom is large. Each room has a hot tub. The room contains an in-room safe. The lighting, however, was somewhat dim. The bed was very comfortable.

CASINO

For Video Poker players the casino has full-pay video poker machines as the norm. There’s a small smoke-free slot/video poker section on the 2nd level. All standard table games are represented. Blackjack has multi-deck shoe games as well as single and double-deck games. The casino is bright. Like all casinos in Tunica, it’s smoky.

FOOD

We did not try the steak house. The coffee shop [Reno’s] is inexpensive with good food and ample portions. It has a non-smoking area. Although you’d expect a coffee shop to be open 24 hours, it seemed to close at noon on weekdays.

Restaurant reviews are, of course, subjective and I realize this fact as I discuss the buffet.

Unless it’s free, don’t go. The lighting is dim -- not romantic dim, not atmospheric dim, just dingy dim. The staff is understaffed and are the least friendly in the hotel. The food selection and quality are both mediocre. The soft serve machines are in disrepair. The buffet is so different from the rest of the hotel, it’s as though it belongs to some other establishment. It’s as though the Sheraton were this lush beautiful planet in space whose gravitational field captured an ugly asteroid which circles the Sheraton but obviously doesn’t belong to it.

LOCATION

The Sheraton is in a cluster with the Horseshoe and the Gold Strike. It’s an easy walk from one to the other two for those seeking variety. We didn’t dine at the Horseshoe but the Gold Strike buffet is excellent for those seeking refuge from the Sheraton’s.

INTERNET ACCESS

We did not bring a laptop computer, so I cannot comment on in-room internet access. However, there is no business center where a guest can access the internet from a hotel-supplied computer..

SUMMARY

Although the weekend prices made it impossible for us to stay our entire week at the Sheraton, we returned daily to the casino. Having visited all nine Tunica casinos, this is the place we’d stay Sunday thru Thursday on our next visit to Tunica.

My husband and I just returned from a five night stay at the Sheraton Tunica. The room was very nice. The jaccuzi tub was wonderful after a long day at the machines. Housekeeping was average. They did not clean our room until midafternoon-the time we like to come up and relax for several hours. These rooms are definately for couples. There is only a frosted glass wall separating the room from the bathroom. The only real privacy is in the separate toilet. I did appreciate the two comfortable chairs. I don't like having no place to sit but the bed. On that note, the bed was wonderful. The linens were nice and the bed very comfortable. All staff we came in contact with was pleasant and very helpful. Several staff memebers gave the impression they would go above and beyond to make their customes happy.

We played at most of the casinos in Tunica. Our best luck was at the Sheraton, Horseshoe, and Fitzgeralds. We actually come home with a little money. I don't know why we go to Sams Town and Hollywood-we have never been able to play at either of these for any amout of time.

The new Diamond player lounge at the Horseshoe is very nice- a good place to relax and grab a snack. I also like the Starbucks at the Horseshoe. A good cup of coffee is always appreciated.

I will definately stay at the Sheraton again. Our five nights were at no cost to us due to Harrahs Total Rewards. We paid for no meals either. I was a bit apprehensive prior to going about how comps would work. No problems at all however.

All in all, this was a wonderful trip. We go to Vegas once a year and Tunica once a year. I am looking forward to our next trip to the Sheraton and Tunica.

We stayed here two nights in mid-June. The hotel is small but upscale. The room was impressive, with a big jacuzzi bath and a wonderfully firm bed. All staff we encountered were helpful and pleasant (we can't understand the many reviews we read about Tunica that say employees were indifferent or rude, because we had none of that).
We played a lot, so most of our meals were comped. The coffee shop was OK, the steakhouse was pretty good, but the service was a little slow. We don't do buffets.
The Sheraton casino is small and didn't have too many live tables. But across the street, literally about 100 feet away, is the Horseshoe, also owned by Harrah's, and it has a larger, nicer casino.
If you go to Tunica, plan to gamble, because there's not much else to do (we went into Memphis and visited Graceland).
Overall, this was a great hotel, one of the better ones we've ever stayed at. We wouldn't hesitate to come back.

1 night at The Sheraton (Tunica, Miss) – It was midweek and we got a great rate ($49) but we couldn’t find any other night here near this rate. This hotel was really over the top nice. The place was really immaculate. Our room was big and beautiful with a Jacuzzi. Sheraton has thee most comfortable beds I have Ever Slept On. Period. The hotel is in walking distance to The Horseshoe and The Gold Strike, a real plus if you like to walk around a little. The lunch buffet was Very delicious and a great deal at about $8 each.
