This is where the locals have dined for 40 years! The food is great and you sit anywhere a seat is open. You pay on the honor system and make your own change! This is like eating at a large family gathering!

I hesitate to review this restaurant because I don't really want to share it with anyone. But I really can't deny that it is a wonderful place to eat. It's like going to your aunt's house for lunch. They lay out a buffet like the customers were not going to be fed again for a month. And the fried chicken is just as Mississippi Magazine says, "The best in Mississippi." Its a set menu by day. So pay attention to what day you're going if you want something particular. Pork chops on Thursday. Fried chicken on Friday. But you'd better get there early or you'll see the sad sign in the window, "Out of Food".

The food was great. The display of the MS state ball champs was on the wall of their restaurant. My Uncle Earnest Watkins was the tallest player in the picture.

Want to eat where the locals eat? Peggy's is the best stop for lunch if you want to avoid fastfood, burgers, and get some good country dishes.

There's no menu, but the servings are hearty and diverse- including a sweet or unsweetened tea, and the whole dish can be made to go. It will satisfy your hunger- you will be back!

The fried chicken is better than I make, and the experience is different than anything you've probably seen(a fading Southern US cultural gem). You can come back many years from now and still see the same regulars- and may become one yourself!

Enjoy!

when you go to philadelphia ms...locals will tell u the place to eat is PEGGY'S...this was probably a good one time trip for the person who likes to eat in odd places...its on byrd rd..and it's an old house and from the outside it does not look like a place you wanna go...my next thing is i do not see how the health department lets this place serve food...you go inside and they are two rooms of tables...you pay at a table and get your own change...in the mean time youre going down a narrow hallway and at the end is a card table set up in front of the kitchen...it has chicken , rice , peas , salads and u dip buffets style from bowls,( probably tupperware), not a steam table...it's like paying to go to your grannys table to eat...they bring you cornbread and banana pudding...but the waitress was not very friendly and kind of rude...this is not a place i'd return to...i think the casino buffet has this place beat...i dont know what the rating score was but to me it wasnt clean...locals can say oh it's the best chicken i ever eaten...apparently they've never been to a kfc...to rate my experience i'd give it a 1 out of 10... i was not impressed...btw parking is bad...like parking in moms drivway
