Want to eat where the locals eat? Peggy's is the best stop for lunch if you want to avoid fastfood, burgers, and get some good country dishes.

There's no menu, but the servings are hearty and diverse- including a sweet or unsweetened tea, and the whole dish can be made to go. It will satisfy your hunger- you will be back!

The fried chicken is better than I make, and the experience is different than anything you've probably seen(a fading Southern US cultural gem). You can come back many years from now and still see the same regulars- and may become one yourself!

Enjoy!

when you go to philadelphia ms...locals will tell u the place to eat is PEGGY'S...this was probably a good one time trip for the person who likes to eat in odd places...its on byrd rd..and it's an old house and from the outside it does not look like a place you wanna go...my next thing is i do not see how the health department lets this place serve food...you go inside and they are two rooms of tables...you pay at a table and get your own change...in the mean time youre going down a narrow hallway and at the end is a card table set up in front of the kitchen...it has chicken , rice , peas , salads and u dip buffets style from bowls,( probably tupperware), not a steam table...it's like paying to go to your grannys table to eat...they bring you cornbread and banana pudding...but the waitress was not very friendly and kind of rude...this is not a place i'd return to...i think the casino buffet has this place beat...i dont know what the rating score was but to me it wasnt clean...locals can say oh it's the best chicken i ever eaten...apparently they've never been to a kfc...to rate my experience i'd give it a 1 out of 10... i was not impressed...btw parking is bad...like parking in moms drivway

The locals will tell you how good the food is and it was okay. A lot of famous people have eaten there.
It was an experience, I'll give them that much.
A card table in the hallway serves as a buffet. They say the restaurant has been in business 40 years. In all that time, I find it hard to believe they haven't some up with a better solution than a card table in the hall!?
Anyway, we had a party of six and the waitress said, "Some of you can sit at this table and some can sit at this other one" (with people we didn't know.) I didn't like sitting with people I didn't know but, the locals say, "Some times at Peggy's, you have to sit with your enemies." No thanks.
Also, paying into the bowl is fine. It's on the honor system but, as my cousin was paying, the waitress came by, didn't say a word, snatched his money from his hand, and kept walking.
All in all, it makes a good story but, I won't eat there again.

I love Peggy's fried chicken. Nobody makes it the way Peggy did. Although she has handed management down to her son, the place is still good. It is a great place for good food. And you pay on the honor system. Meaning you drop your money in a bowl near the front. On Fridays, they always had a steak night. So good. Especially with the family. It is a local restaurant that has been featured in Southern Living in on TV. Nothing beats Peggy's cooking. Love taking it as take out or eating there with family. Best place! Considering Peggy and her family used to live there and it is an old home, the buffet works nicely for how it is. It is local. Definitly a place worth stopping by! I've even got me t-shirts.

Located in a home, Peggy's is a unique eating experience based on southern food and hospitality.
