I agree that this is a "must see" if you are near Oxford. The Circle Garden and English Knot Garden were our favorites places outside, although the entire grounds were beautiful. As said before, the inside of the house was in excellent condition, and we especially enjoyed paging through the scrapbook of newspaper articles about William Faulkner and Rowan Oak. The brochure was excellent, with a listing of Faulkner's books, related reading, history and descriptions of the house and grounds. Admission is free on Wednesdays, and $5 for adults 18 and over Tuesdays-Saturdays.

We were impressed with the manner in which the University of Mississippi has maintained Faulkner's home. We had the feeling that he might appear at any minute it was so authentic . The furniture was original and was what a middle class family might have had. The grounds were beautiful with huge cedar trees dominating. The staff had answers for all our questions and the displays of Faulkner's life were informative.

Visited Rowan Oak the day before Thanksgiving. It is a charming place and anyone with an interest in Faulkner should make the pilgrimage to see his house. It's a delightful old Southern place, and it's cool to see how the author created a story line for one of his works by writing on the wall, a practice he picked up from his time in Hollywood. I wouldn't travel miles out of my way, but it's a "must see" if anything brings you to Oxford.
