Known all over the South for probably a hundred years, the place lay fallow as a new owner tried Continental Cuisine. Now it's back serving Southern Style and relying on its traditional peanut butter on the tables and Black Bottom pie. Hurray!

Appetizers are always delicious...order doubles. The upstairs bar and balcony gets a bit crowded but the locals and staff are always pleasant to be around.

We enjoyed the food and the service was excellent. The bartender makes a good Manhatten.

Just back from a trip to Meridian to attend a concert at the Riley Center. Our plans called for dinner at Weidmann's after the concert. Good plan! Weidmann's is a short walk from the Riley Center. As we expected, there was a very large after performance crowd, but we were seated quickly in the downstairs bar area. Great atmosphere. While the restaurant has changed owners over the years, the facility dates back over 100 years. The current owners have done a good job of maintaining the character of the restaurant. The walls are covered with photos of celebrities who have dined there over the decades.
There were six of us in our party, and we had a combination of appatizers and entrees. All were very good. My entre' of fried soft shell crab over pasta with portobello was excellent. One of our party, who had a crabcake over a fried green tomato with cheese, said it was the best crab cake she'd ever had.
Our server was prompt and attentive, which I thought was remarkable given the volume of business they had that night.
Weidmann's would be a good choice anytime, but should be the ONLY choice before or after a performance at the Riley Center.
