I love Sal & Mookies pizza! Theirs is the kind of pizza that makes you long for a visit to the Big Apple. The restaurant's menu helps reinforce that thought by naming the different kinds of specialty pizzas after key New York landmarks. Want a pizza with gorgonzola, sun-dried tomatoes, spicy Italian sausage, and Kalamata olives? Order the "Bowery." Fancy mozzarella, provolone, yellow cheddar, grilled chicken and sautéed green bell peppers & onions - then step right up and order the "Rockaway Beach." In the mood for mozzarella, pepperoni, spicy Italian sausage, prosciutto, and Genoa salami? Take the "A" train straight to the "Meat Packing District." Or, if you like (as I do) a little bit of everything then order a "Riker's Island."

Not in the mood for Pizza? Plenty of other options on the menu ranging from subs to salads to panini sandwiches to strombolis and even burgers. They also offer several great pasta dishes and have a good kids menu. They even have homemade ice cream for dessert.

Kids menu is available. Restaurant is closed on Mondays. Location is just off North State Street near the MS Medical Center - about 10 minutes west of I-55 at either the Woodrow Wilson or Lakeland Drive West exits.

Service is great. The servers know the products, so feel free to ask for recommendations.

Went last night to Sal & Mookie's largely due to the kid-friendly rating. The service was very attentive but not intrusive. The food was really good. I had "The Bowery" stromboli. It was huge! I wound up taking half back to the hotel. My husband had a burger and really, really loved it. He took part home too. That part is amazing because we both are big eaters. My daughter just had a slice of pineapple pizza. Hers was disappointing. They were stingy on the sauce and the pineapple chunks were too big. Tidbits would work better, melt into the cheese and not fall off. They don't serve Coca-Cola but Pepsi. That's a big deal if you're from Atlanta. You can mix up any kind of soda you can imagine with their syrups. My daughter loved that. On the whole kid-friendly thing they were just OK. They have wikistix instead of crayons and they have windows to look into the kitchen with a step up and hand holds for the kids to be able to see.

Jeff Good has created yet another great restaurant. The pizza is great but there is something for everyone...hamburgers, paninis and pasta dishes. They also have a list of really fun speciality cocktails and fantastic ice cream. Daily lunch specials. Ice cream bar and making string figures that are put on display above the bar are fun for the kids. Great place for adults to get a good drink and hang out. Noise issue has been somewhat addressed by the addition of sound deadening panels on the ceiling.

Kid-friendly by day. Cocktail friendly by night. Bring a sweater. I always freeze there. Good service. Great selection from hamburgers to pizza (which is amazing) to pasta dishes to sandwiches.
