Unique atmosphere with lots of Civil Rights history. The food was some of the best Soul Food I've ever tasted. The Meatloaf has a rich tomato gravy smothering it, Um. Collards and fried green tomatoes were to die for. Home cooking on steroids.

Everything is made from scratch. Every vegetable dish is delicious, even the rutabaga! And you don't just get "greens" -- you get a choice of three different greens of the day! The meats also are fabulous, including real downhome specialties like neckbones, oxtails, ham hocks. You'll have to visit several times to try everything! Unfortunately I've never saved room for dessert, I'm sure those are terrific too.

We were traveling through MS and found Bully's Restaurant offered home cooking. All my family agreed that the food was excellent. We had pork ribs, beef ribs and catch fish with assortments of sides from Mac-n-cheese, fried green tomatoes, collard greens, mustard greens, and yams. We were so full that we decided to order desserts to go from peach cobbler, blackberry pie, chocolate cake and carrot cake. Everyone agreed that the desserts were very yummy. Further, the folks there were very welcoming and appreciated that our family was there. We came to find out that the naming of the restaurant is the owner's last name, which we were able to meet Mr. Bully.

We've lived in the Jackson metro for over ten years, and for some reason Bully's wasn't on my radar. So when that James Beard Foundation award showed up, I thought: "I'm in." Now, I am a product of the Deep South, and I can assure you that I know homestyle Southern cooking. Jackson is rife with plenty of places to indulge, and some are really good.

Enter Bully's. It in a part of town that I don't frequent, and I tracked it with the GPS. I am here to testify that everything I've eaten there is just about the best possible rendition of the dish. Fried chicken? Crispy, moist, perfectly seasoned. Hamburger steak? Gravy, onions, and a portion roughly the size of your head. I tried oxtalis for the first time, which were like the most tender pot roast ever, smothered in gravy. I was glad I took the gamble.Vegetables? Squash, black-eyed peas, okra and tomatoes, mashed potatoes, fried green tomatoes, etc., all as good as they get. Of special note are Mr. Bully's greens - spicy collard greens were the best I've ever had (and I say that knowing that my Mama might come up out of the grave and "get me" for saying that, because her greens were sublime.)

Service? So help me, I've never had better - I genuinely felt like family. Attentive, gracious, warm, all that you could want.

Am I a fan? What do you think? Trust your Uncle Tony on this one. If you have any Southerner in you at all - or you, at least, want to have some of the South's delicacies - here ya go. I'm headed over there again in a couple of hours. I'm addicted.

I moved from the Jackson area approximately 22 years ago. When I returned home I would try to stop in for a good meal. As time passed, I stopped going by on my visits home.

I recently returned to Jackson on a trip with a bus full of people. I had no idea where we would be stopping to eat. When we pulled up, some of the people on the bus was wondering if we really was going to eat here. I reassured them that they would enjoy the food.

This place brought back memories from when I lived here. The food was as good as I remembered. The staff is friendly and was able to feed a bus full of people, while also preparing take out orders for people dropping in, quick.

Thanks Bully's for the great food. I will definitely be coming back on my future visits home!
