Went between lunch and dinner on an afternoon date w/ hubby. Relaxed bar group, they took my special order for a fried green tomato, blt with pimento cheese on toasted sourdough and it was great. Ower/bartender was very nice.

The eggplant fry appetizer is marvelous! Fried chicken with drizzled honey - as they say, to get a better piece of chicken, you would have to be a rooster!

I eat at Julep fairly regularly because they are convenient and have some great lunch items. In particular, I live the fish tacos with eggplant fries, the tuna salad and the tuna and spaghetti squash. Not to mention, the rolls are great!

However, I hate the plastic chairs and during my last visit we had quite a few problems. 45 minutes into the visit, our server told us they were out of the item we had ordered 30 minutes earlier as an appetizer. Subsequently, we were told the restaurant was out of two of the dinner entrees that had been selected. None of this was communicated to us until well after the order was placed (1 hr into the visit). When we were advised of the situation, we were told they were out of a lot of items.

It was obvious they seers short staffed during this last visit, but not having to ask for silverware or wait 15 minutes for water would be nice. This is not the norm, but it does detract from the visit.

Our family went for Brunch on Saturday during Thanksgiving weekend. We enjoyed the beignets as starters then had a variety of entrees; everyone enjoyed their meal. Fried chicken with honey glaze was unique and very tasty. Very good shrimp and grits. Steak and eggs Benedict recommended.

We sat and ate in the bar and were even brave enough to try a Mint Julep! The server warned us that most people returned them because they are so rough, but we tried a few sips just to say we've done it. Yes, rough indeed! But the food is a great, unique twist on good ol' southern food. If you want familiar food from the South but are looking for a new experience, this is the place.
