“Best seafood, period.”
Reviewed March 4, 2014

We have been going to the Mayflower for years and have found it to be the best seafood restaurant we have been to anywhere, anytime. I say "best" as the big variable in seafood is the quality of the the initial product. The Mayflower has the best quality crabmeat, redfish, red snapper, lemon fish and flounder, and many more. The selections vary as the owner hand-selects the varieties and he only chooses what looks the best. Preparations are simple but sublime. Beyond fish per se, try the seafood salad which is crammed with jumbo lump crabmeat and large shrimp, or Eggplant Josephine. You will not be disappointed. Their Comeback salad dressing is legendary, and the recipe a closely-guarded secret. They are also famous for their coconut cream pie.
This is a typical old-style cafe, with ancient booths and black and white hex tile floor. It is full of regular locals. Just go to the bathroom before you leave home-the restrooms are upstairs, and haven't changed since the 20's. Its all part of the charm.

“Jakson tradition that's gotten tired.”
Reviewed March 4, 2014

Mayflower has a loyal following who frequent it, but the food is a throw back to the 70's, served in the same old plates and bowls. Go for comeback dressing and soda crackers, but don't go to the bathroom thru the kitchen. uck.

“Great Food in Downtown Jackson”
Reviewed January 11, 2014

Loved the food here and the laid-back atmosphere! It was full of local families and the staff was very efficient. The food was very fresh and they have the best Lemon Icebox Pie I've ever eaten!

“Old Jackson at its finest!”
Reviewed January 6, 2014

The Mayflower Cafe is a Jackson institution known for its seafood. Here you will see several generations of Jackson families eating together - a true test of the longevity and popularity. The building is a little run-down, but don't let that deter you from going in - the food, service, and ambience are all excellent. The prices are very reasonable, and the food is fresh and delicious. A quirk is that the restroom is upstairs from the cafe, and you have to go outside to get there, but again, a very minor inconvenience when the food is this good, and you experience a big piece of Jackson dining history.
