“Throwback”
Reviewed July 18, 2013

The Mayflower is a throwback to the great old supper spots. But it's not an intentional throwback -- it just never went anywhere. Brown bag your vino. Order the redfish. Have oysters to start if they're fresh from the gulf (they will be.) And plan to sit around and tell tales for a while -- they won't rush you out of your table. This is how it's supposed to be.

“No 30 in Jackson restaurants? Should be No. 1”
Reviewed July 10, 2013

Fresh, fabulous seafood beautifully prepared and friendly service, this is not to be missed when in Jackson. The seasoning on the seafood is lightly spiced and not overwhelming like blackened style just one state away, but is perfectly balanced. The Colbert butter sauce that the soft shell crab, redfish, and shrimp are served in is hedonistic. If you've ever been to LeEntrecot in Paris, you'll know what I mean when I say the sauce will leave you in a daydream. Fresh, crisp green salad, housemade dressing, soft buttery rolls and a lively atmosphere. So what if its downtown? Feed the meter and then prepare yourself for a fabulous seafood dinner.

“Five star food in a diner atmosphere.”
Reviewed July 8, 2013 via mobile

Some of the best food I have had since working in Jackson. I had the tilapia with baked potato. It came with a salad. Also had their bread pudding. All was excellent. Service was also stellar. Don't let the diner atmosphere turn you off.

“Whatever”
Reviewed June 27, 2013

Got to overhear staff complaining about slow week. Food was fine. But having just come from Medgar Evers civil rights exhibit I couldn't help but wonder if the retro look is why there were only whites eating there. I wondered about the restaurant history - when did it integrate? Has it? All the "history" made me suspicious -

“Step Back In Time”
Reviewed June 8, 2013

The food was excellent - primarily seafood - the redfish a 77 year traditional dish, Crab Bisque was delicious - had small seafood salad - ok but "small" and wished had ordered something else. Interior is like an old fashioned eatery - booths on each side with formica tables in a row down the middle. The bar had stools and was in the back corner but all customers were seated at tables or booths. We had a large group (12) and the owner was most accommodating to seat us together although we had to wait till a couple tables emptied to finally accomplish this. With such a large group service was ok but not outstanding. Located downtown, about a block from the Amtrac station so took some work to find.
