“Best Bed and Breakfast (unsure about restaurant)”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 17, 2013

We went to Jackson for the 2012 marathon and we stayed in the English room. Ahh this was a wonderful room. We had a jacuzzi, shower, bidet, double sink bathroom. The room has a fireplace in the middle of the room. There were great windows all around the room and little sitting nook areas. This was one of the most romantic hotels we have stayed in. They really make a big deal out of southern hospitality. They actually give you a two course breakfast which is enough food to fill you for a whole day. They have a complimentary coffee area downstairs with one of those keurig coffee makers. They do have a honor system wine/other refreshments area too. They have a spa which we took advantage of the massage before and after the marathon. I tried to get in a last minute pedicure treatment and learned it is impossible to get anything done last minute because no one answers the various phone lines. We also tried to eat at their restauraunt a couple of times and tried room service. No one answered with room service and then we discovered a wedding reception so we had to go elsewhere which was fine... They sort of need to do a better job with answering phones, online scheduling services (like dinner reservations/spa reservations), and making it obvious they are closed for dinner (perhaps a fancy sign) we sort of felt like idiots being bounced from the restauraunt prior to the reception because we would not have tried to go if we knew.... I intend to return to this place and try a different room and schedule any services in advance of course. I would like to get a better feel for Jackson in general outside of the marathon... As for the trip I would have to preindicate it was a "fitness" trip though it is not an option so I am saying couples because it was that too.

Room Tip: I would imagine all rooms are quiet as mine was. I would probably choose a room on the top floor bec...

We stayed here after an event that get over late one night in the spring. The staff was so kind and attentive and helpful on every front. I was a huge fan of the breakfast we got the next morning.

The rooms we had was themed, and I wasn't in love with the actual decor for my room. but it was clean and comfy.

We spent 4 days over Christmas at the Fairview Inn. The Inn was beautifully decorated for the season with twinkling white lights and red bows throughout the grounds and tasteful floral arrangements, trees and garland throughout the interior. The Fairview Inn is a full service small inn offering a generous breakfast menu for guests, library bar, and full service dinner restaurant. Our rooms were in both the original mansion and newer addition. All rooms were generously sized with large modern baths. Rooms in the newer section are handicap accessible. The Executive Suite in the original mansion has a small sitting room and bath that can be separated from the bedroom. In all the other suites (that we saw), the sitting area and television are not separate from the bedroom. Most rooms have unique features such as fireplaces, whirlpool tubs, window seats etc. Although one of the lower priced rooms, the Tack Suite is very generously sized, handicap accessible and beautifully decorated.
Breakfast is a highlight of staying at the Fairview Inn. Served with linens, china and proper mugs for coffee the menu is extensive. Highly recommended is the full Southern Breakfast with fabulous grits (try them, you'll like them), bacon and eggs your way. On all but 1 day the biscuits were light, hot, and delicious. Feel free to ask for substitutions and alterations, I found they were always gracefully accommodated. Also highly recommended is the French Toast, a generous portion made with real French Bread. On 1 day, the special was a lobster omelet. Definitely not your typical B&B fare! At many B&B and inns, the service and/or selection is often downgraded for holidays, such as Christmas Eve and Christmas day, this was not the case at the Fairview Inn as full regular service was available on both days.
During our stay there was a large, private event in the inn. This was handled beautifully by the staff with almost no impact or disruption to the inn's overnight guests. It appears that the inn enforces a curfew on these events such that the inn returns to its normally quiet operation by 10pm.
We were grateful that Fairview Inn offered the option for Christmas dinner. Having traveled over many Christmas's, this meal is often hard to obtain at fine dining establishments. The inn offered a full dinner menus as well as a prix fixed menu. With our large group we were able to sample extensively from the menu. The food was delicious with a highlight being the lobster risotto. Venison, fish and beef were all appropriately prepared. Although served with a smile, the waitstaff could be better trained in proper service technique.
The location of the Fairview Inn was perfect for our group, central to downtown Jackson museums and easy access to Fondren, Highland Village and I-55.

Room Tip: Executive Suite has a separate sitting area so that television and/or guests can be separated from b...

I recently had the opportunity to stay at the Fairview Inn, Jackson, MS (11NOV12) because of a complimentary gift from this Inn's Owners to our American Veterans. I would like say to them thank you very much for your generousity. My stay was dreamy from the moment I set eyes upon this establishment. The place was immaculate and the staff was impeccable. We were treated like out of town relatives that were truly loved. We stayed in the Roman Room. We eat a nice Southern style breakfast the next morning and then we were allowed to tour the interior of the place. We had previously toured the exterior and taken pics on that Sunday upon arrival. Stepping into this place made me feel like I was in Southern Living magazine or Veranda. This is a truly beautiful place. They must have ordered the weather to go along with the tour for the outside; beautiful in the fall, sunshine and tempteratures of 60-65 degrees made it even more dreamier. I will never forget my stay here and recommend this to everyone in/around Jackson or just visiting.

Room Tip: Rooms on the upper levels have sun rooms and more light emissions.

This was one of the absolute best inns/small hotels/B and Bs I have ever stayed in. It is stunningly beautiful inside and out. Historic atmosphere and furnishings-- like stepping back in time but without giving up modern comforts. Loved our room #2 (beautifully converted attic space)-- large and comfortable. The food was outstanding== truly felt like every meal was a special feast. So many delicious choices at breakfast. BTW the restaurant is good news for vegetarians-- we didn't feel we had to settle for anything less than fantastic unlike some other places. The Civil War library collection was a special feature we enjoyed. The guest pantry with its delicious baked treats was much appreciated. Everyone from the proprietors to the wait staff to the reception staff was cordial and welcoming. Loved this place and hope to return soon!!

We stayed in room/suite #5, complete with fireplace, whirlpool, king size bed and an extra room. The problem may be just with this room and the review is predicated on only this room. There was a loud "hum" originating in the wall next to the bed. It was not overpowering until all of the other background noise was shutdown in preparation for bed. We could not sleep with this noise and moved to the other bedroom which did not have curtains or shades on all of the windows allowing the outside lights to dominate the room, but was quiet.
The second problem was the whirlpool - it looked clean, however in use produced a yellow oily film on us and the walls of the tub. We were concerned about the sanitary condition and immediately showered to remove the film from us. It was still on the tub when we left.
Breakfast was great and the staff helpful. Didn't understand the free soft drinks and cookies in the kitchen, but a $1.00 for an regular sized bottled water.
