Owner description: The Old Capitol building served the state from 1832-1903 and was later converted into a State Historical Museum. Visitors can tour the grand dam of Mississippi politics, plus view dioramas and exhibits that trace the city's history. The museum also includes a large collection of Jefferson Davis memorabilia.

Workers were very informative. The building has been renovated and looks new again inside. Very neat to tour this and the current capital down the street and compare the two.

i will be honest. I have a special place in my heart for the Old Capitol. My great grandfather's portrait is hung in the Old Capitol along with many other great Mississippians.

Historic relics are authentic and the building is the Old Capitol building which is full of history. Very interesting.

It is a nice stop in Jackson, MS and probably my personal favorite of all activities I did. It is a smallish building by museum standards but that is because it is the old Capital building. So it is really wonderful to visit a building that has so much history and walk around in it, beautiful structure as well. There are only 7-8 rooms with information to see, I took my time and got through the museum in a little over an hour. Great combination of our building's history along with the state's history.

There is also a monument to fallen Confederate soldiers, another war monument and a history archive on the same property.

If you enjoy history in any form, you will find something to enjoy here. Volunteers and staff members will take you back in time for a memorable experience. The exhibits are nicely done, and the guides will make sure you experience true “southern hospitality.” If you are visiting from out of town, out of state, or out of the country, the folks here will also be very helpful in helping you discover other great places to visit, depending on your interests.
