“A step back in time”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 5, 2013

Phillips Grocery is one of those places the world needs more of. Located in the old part of town next to an old depot you get a feeling of being back in the 1930's. A lot of antiques to see and the best burgers you will find. If I had a restaurant, this is the one I would want. A very simple menu with an old country story atmosphere. You will be glad you visited.

“Old Time Hamburget in an Old Time Building”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 21, 2012 via mobile

Phillips Grocery is in building that predates the turn of the last century and is next door to a railroad station of the same age. They are in an abandoned area desparately needing redevelopment. Honestly, this place is worth the trip just to check put the architecture. And their well publicized burger is good. It's got that old time grill top crust invite that you rarely get today. But everything else is very average and mostly direct from the freezer. The fried pies are homemade and pretty tasty but not sweet enough for my taste. On a pretty day its fun to sit on the old porch at a picnic table. Go to witness the slow decline of an old Southern town and see what all those Southern novelists drew from...

“Definitley Not Number One in Holly Springs”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 26, 2012

Interesting atmosphere, disgusting bathroom and burgers that are overrated. Deep-fried pies are another story .. delicious! A fun stop for tourists, but with Annie's, JB's and Aunt Whooey's in the same town, I don't understand all the whoopla over this place and its limited menu and ordinary food. Must have started with the national mag review .. which just goes to show that Yankees don't get Southern food

“One of USA Today's top 10 burgers in the United States.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 16, 2011

This is my guilty pleasure in town. These are so good that you should go on and order the deluxe - if you don't, you'll wish you had more when you finish eating your burger. Here's a hint, I like to order mine "crunchy". It's juicy on the inside and crisp on the outside. You should also try the corn nuggets and my husband always orders the fried mushrooms. If you've been and especially good boy or girl, be sure and finish your meal with a deeeelisious fried apple or peach pie. These rival my grandmother's. AND THAT'S REALLY SAYING SOMETHING!
