“This place is awesome!”
Reviewed December 17, 2011

First of all, don't listen to these negative reviews. My husband and I eat here once a week and have NEVER had bad food. Kyoto is the BEST sushi place in DeSoto County.

In regards to the 18% gratuity for the Hibachi table, it is on the menu. People just don't read it. Reading is fundamental you know.

It is more expensive during dinner, so we always go at lunch. I recommend the Teriyaki Chicken Bento Box, the California Roll, Spicy Tuna Roll, or any of the HIbachi lunch plates. I haven't had anything on the menu that I didn't like yet.

“watch out for hidden tips added, etc...”
Reviewed October 29, 2011

Be aware if you are sitting at the hibachi table with friends or others notice there is gratuity included in your total and most people do not see and add another tip on top of this. Also if you order togo fried rice they do not cook fresh it is from the back already made up so if you want it cooked a certain way be specific on telling them to make your fried rice fresh. Also the sauces if you eat there you can get as many as you want but they charge you on average .75 per sauce side to all togo orders....Be aware....

“Slightly overpriced decent food in a cramped environment with rushed service and unsociable chefs”
Reviewed May 27, 2011

The sushi was definitely good but really not worth the price. The hibachi was worse, with unsociable cooks, and no flare for their art. But at least in those seats you could move your elbows without banging another patron. The staff was unfriendly but then again that might just be because they only speak Spanish. The whole time we felt rushed to leave while they mechanically ran their business.

“SKIP IT”
Reviewed February 20, 2011

Worst. Japanese. Ever. The scallops and shrimp were frozen, soggy, and puny. The sauces were bland and the sushi was grocery store quality. The Hispanic "chef" merely said hello to us, robotically cooked our food, and said goodbye. No theatrics, no onion volcano, no shrimp flipping. The only Japanese person in the entire restaurant was the manager; however, our Hispanic cook was kind enough to attempt a fake Japanese accent when he said hello and goodbye.

The final coup de grace was receiving our bill with an 18% gratuity automatically added for our party of four. Furthermore, below the bill's total amount, they had added yet another section for "recommended gratuity amounts" for 18%, 20%, and 25% after the gratuity had already been included with the total. To add a gratuity automatically to the bill and then suggest gratuity amounts below the total is an attempt to deceive the customer into leaving more money.

If you get a chance to visit Kyoto Steakhouse in Hernando, skip it.
