“A unique and peaceful stay”
Reviewed June 7, 2011

The Tallahatchie Flats are one of the most unique places we've ever had the pleasure of staying at and we will definitely be back one day because one evening was not enough. We had such a relaxing afternoon and evening, sitting on our porch and then watching the stars come out - oh the stars! We loved the vintage decor and everything a bit mismatched - but be warned - if you're into luxury - this isn't it. We had to kill several wasps that had made their way in and were attacked by biting ants, but I wouldn't have traded the experience. I literally haven't slept so good in a long time and I'm looking forward to an excuse to go back!

Where do I start? - I nearly cried when I left this place where we were welcomed more as friends than guests.
We arrived by Amtrak and got a lift from Bo at the station picked up our keys and checked into Tushogs. It was full of charm, clean, authentic and comfortable. We sat on the deck listening to the grasshoppers and stargazing in the quiet evenin'.
There's a kettle, stove and microwave to cook on, all facilities are in good nick and everything (mugs and cutlery) were provided.
We had travelled to MS without a car and as soon as they realised this , they went out of their way to help us out, an ubelievable level of service, care and attention, and a taste of true southern hospitality.
We spent the day in the town and returned in the early afternoon to take a stroll along the river and pick some cotton. George, his family and the staff members always seemed to make time to stop and chat, and take time to make sure we had everything we needed which was great, I couldnt have asked for more.
I wish them the best of luck with their ventures and expansions. Can't wait to see what they've done with the place when we return next year, hopefully for longer.
As I said, I was devastated leaving this place, as it felt like leaving home - These guys made our trip and I can't thank them enough for that.

Four of us traveled to the Mississippi Delta to spend two nights in a shack that is part of the Tallahatchie Flats. We were welcomed by Les who was everything a conscientious host could be. Key in hand we walked over to open the door on our own shack, Ashland. Two sleeping couches and a huge bed to choose from, we checked out the kitchen and bathroom.
The kitchen wasn't anything you'll find in Better Homes magazine, being much more like something from O Brother Where Art Thou. No matter. It had more than I expected. Stove, microwave, coffeemaker and a huge modern fridge. The bathroom was cozy, except for the shower, which is very spacious. The water pressure was better than in my own modern house.
We lazed around for hours on the front porch with its view over the fields that went on and on. The back porch looked out to the Tallahatchie River and is ideal for the blazing sunsets. Swallows swooped over the water and songbirds filled the trees.
Our friend from England looked up into the night sky and said, "You have stars here!!" That in itself was worth the drive for sure.
If you want fancy, keep driving until you find a cookie cutter hotel. But if you are looking for rustic, authentic and very real, give Tallahatchie Flats a try. We can't wait to come back!

Tallahatchie Flats is a group of six former sharecropper huts relocated to a rural site three miles outside Greenwood, Mississippi. The property is only a few hundred yards from the grave site of the legendary Robert Johnson.

The concept of the property is similar to that of the better-known Shack Up Inn, near Clarksdale.

Personally I preferred Tallahatchie Flats for its quiet, totally rural location amid cotton and soya fields, and close to the bank of the Tallahatchie River.

Although the exteriors of the cottages does not inspire confidence, they are a very pleasant, affordable, and comfortable place to stay, with good beds, full kitchen, TV, and adequate bathroom.
