I basically have to echo the other reviewers here - red's is a brilliant place if you want a more authentic blues experience. Take your instrument if you want to jam with the locals, but don't expect any sort of luxury. The toilets are one step up from a hole in the ground, the "bar" is a dumpster filled with ice and bottles of Bud (although most of the locals seem to bring in a hip flask of whiskey), but the music, and atmosphere, is as cool as it gets.

There's sometimes a BBQ but otherwise there's no food, it's basically just like going to a gig in someone's garage, but I totally loved it. Most memorable place in the delta, IMO.

I went to the Delta to find real Delta Blues. Red's is the place. A real old fashion Jook Joint. Robert"Wolfman" Belfour was absolutely amazing. His guitar playing and vocals are like looking back in time.

Red is a great guy and runs a first class operation with no BS.

If you want the real deal, Red's is the place. Unforgetable.

My band, The Underground Blues Division, went to the International Blues Challenge in Memphis recently. We took the opportunity to head down to Clarksdale to jam at The Ground Zero. A few fellow jammers told us about a jam at Red's, so we headed up afterwards. We pulled up in front of a place that could only be described as " Sanford and Sonesque" , and went inside. Now if you like nice, clean chain places with tables and crazy crap on the walls this ain't it. But if you wanna hear REAL blues and don't mind sitting on a funky couch in the middle of the floor, get down to Red's. Red's gotta be the coolest cat in Clarksdale, Laid back and accomodating, even let us dig into some smoked chicken and ribs he had smoking out front{ best damn grub I had that whole trip!). If you love the blues and wanna live the blues Red's is a must!

Red's is incredible!! It's an authentic jukejoint with all the character & characters you'd ever want to find. The place is really seedy, beverages are limited to beer (although you can BYOB), & the bathrooms are semi-scary. Red, however, is great - a nicer guy you'll never meet. Likewise for his friends & loyal customers.
The music is awesome & it's a true party atmosphere. Don't let the exterior of the place (or Red) scare you off. Once you enter the door, you'll be glad you did (& will probably have some good memories to take home with you).

If you are seeking a real juke joint, this is a must. Exact opposite of the Ground Zero blues club chain. Authentic. Real blues artists playing in a hole in a the wall joint, more come in and pick up/join. This is where musicians came after they opened somewhere else. So glad we went! You won't find neon lights or even bathroom doors that close properly, but you will find a real piece of history and great music. Don't be shy about mingeling or dancing, you may never see this/be here again!
