“Juke Joint's Juke Joint”
Reviewed May 11, 2013

It takes perseverance to find the place, courage to walk in and total insensitivity to the Blues to ever leave. Great bluesmen of every stripe play this low-down club regularly and it's all orchestrated by larger than life Red. A great 3 piece blues band the night I spent there with Lucious on the lead guitar, cherubic Kingfish on the rhythm guitar and a 13 year old drummer (watched over by his mother)! An experience unique in my 74 years. Can't possibly describe the decrepitude outside or inside, but the vibe is incredible.

“Authentic Blues at its Best”
Reviewed April 11, 2013

For a good time, go to Red's. Don't expect anything fancy. The chairs are ripped; the roof sags; but nothing beats the atmosphere in this intimate lounge. Love it!

“Amazing place”

A real Juke Joint not like the pretend ones on Beale Street. Watched Terry Harmonica Bean on a Friday night, real blues, he played without a break and really interacts with the audience. What an experience!

“Real blues”
Reviewed April 1, 2013

Raw, real, and necessary. We caught 14-year-old Kingfish, and the rest of the world will have to catch up when he erupts onto the recorded music scene. Red is to be thanked for preserving this last vestige of juke joints.

“Very cool juke joint”
Reviewed March 13, 2013

When you walk into this place, it doesn't look like much. But when a musician like Robert "Bilbo" Walker starts shaking his legs while he sings and playing some good blues, you realize you've walked into something special. Hell he even started sassing his ex-wife in the crowd (and she sassed back). We were lucky to get two remaining bar stools and had a great view of the show and Bilbo shook all his parts in our face at some point or other. The show was great for a couple of hours then more and more people started arriving which filled the place up a little too much. Then, they started dancing which blocked our view. I'd say get there early (around 9 pm on our particular night), enjoy the fun for as long as you can, and leave knowing you should come back again real soon.
