This place lived up to and exceeded my expectations! We loved their sense of humour and our shack... Office..was just perfect! Went to Ground Zero in Clarkesdale and had a great night. Cat head records also worth a visit.

We stayed in one of the shacks, not in the 'hotel'-rooms. This a great place to stay, nice musical atmosphere. The shacks are nicely decorated (with mostly old junk, that is, but it's supposed to be like that!). You are free to use the instruments stored in there. We didn't play the piano, so the owner was kind to lend us one of his guitars. Great staff, friendly and very helpful. The only thing is that you need a car to get to the city of Clarksdale to visit one of the blues bars (it's about a 10 minute drive). But it's worth it. It's like the poster in our Crossroads Shack said: after spending a night in the crossroads shack, you'll find out why so many blues songs start with 'woke up this morning'..

We just had a single night here whilst touring the southern states. We did know we had booked a rural sharecroppers shack, but even then some aspects weren't quite as expected. It was a worthwhile experience but maybe a few learning points might help others.
The rural setting was atmospheric, and the lady very helpful with advice etc. We had expected the barn, set up as it was for a band, to be at least a congregating point for guests even if no music on a Tuesday. But it seems it isn't really opened up except for occasional festivals, and we saw little of other guests. You can go in it, but in our experience, it was completely alone. Also, we had read other TA's experiences of communal bar-b-qs, but there was little sign of this.

The shack (Claremont) was as described with a/c, but it was so noisy as to inhibit any sleep. Yes, we knew how the shack was described and no problem with that, but trying to sleep with what sounded like a tractor next to the bed was hard. Mind you, it was an unusually hot night, so maybe others have turned it right down or off?
There were stray dogs around our shack at night; not frightening but made additional noise by scratching around.

As Clarksdale itself appeared so very quiet on a Tuesday, you do need to select your night to stay here very carefully, as with nothing happening on site, and nothing much in town, we couldn't get as much out of it as we'd hoped.

We could not have enjoyed our stay here more. Stayed in the "bins" and they are wonderful and the hosts were so welcoming and enjoyable. You have a feeling here that you have stepped back in time to a more accomodating era and it is most relaxing. I must also add that one will feel safer here than at some of the more modern accomodations in the area.

My husband and I are trying to visit all 50 states together before my 50th Birthday so every year we try to visit two or three states. This spring we went to Arkansas, Mississippi, and Tennessee; our visit to Mississippi brought us to Clarksdale and The Shack Up Inn! We had a great time in Clarksdale and loved the Shack Up inn. My husband thought I was crazy when I said I wanted to on a plantation in a sharecroppers shack, but he said if I was willing he was too! Once we got there we both realized that it was a great decision. The staff was so personable and helpful and the grounds make for some great photo ops.

We had dinner at a Mexican restaurant on the main strip and then headed to Reds for some Blues. Red's is an authentic juke joint and should not be missed, the guy performing was Anthony he is a real showman. It is right down the street from Ground Zero and you can easily stop by both.

Bottom line, We were only there for a night but so glad that we had the experience! I would highly recommend if you are in Clarksdale that you head to the Shack Up Inn!!
