“Our favourite place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 25, 2013

Thought as the occasional trip advisor writer I had better write a review on our favourite family summer holiday place. We have just returned from our 16th summer holiday here with our 3 boys, now 22,19 and 15. From the very start it was never a count down to Christmas but how many days until we get to Te Mahia. We stay in one of the Heritage units on the water front and it really is water front..the high tide is lapping under the balcony!! The units are equipped with everything we need and there are also BBQs a few steps away for cooking the scallops, fish and mussels that we
bring back from our fishing outings. The easy access to the Queen Charlotte is great for walking and mountain biking .Jann and Trevor are fantastic hosts and are able to point people in the right direction for anything they need. We are able to get our daily coffee fix from the shop which has been a very welcome addition in the last few years. We are grateful that we are able to have two weeks here but even for a night or two on your travels it is a stunning spot not to be missed.

Basic accommodation in a less than basic location in NZ! - absolutely amazing part of NZ.

We stayed in a modern hotel apartment which was comfortable tho provided little privacy with other stayers walking past the lounge and bedroom windows.

Kitchen does not provide hotplates or oven which is unfortunate with shower only and no bath in the bathroom.

No cooking oils or sauces provided either for the kitchen and there is no zipping down to the supermarket - take absolutely everything food wise for your stay and only coffee, tea, milo, S&P provided, with small milk.

Loved our few days there tho likely would not return.

Room Tip: Take absolutely everything food wise and drink wise as there is nothing for miles!

There may be some slight confusion from this guest on her travels as here at Te Mahia Bay Resort we have self contained motels and apartments, not hotel rooms. All of our accommodation styles here at the resort contain hobs for cooking, as well as electric fry pans, microwaves and a full contingent of kitchen utensils, pots, pans and crockery, cutlery and even a choice of champagne, red or white wine glasses.
Our onsite shop here at the resort does have a selection of oils, sauces and a whole array of other products fresh and frozen for sale should our patrons wish to cook for themselves. Our café which is open from 8.00am sells delectable cakes, slices, quiches, gourmet pizzas and fabulous coffee and alcoholic beverages. We even offer the service of delivering your pizza or choice of frozen gourmet meal to your room for your convenience.

We stayed in a motel unit which was very spacious and well set up. Private with a very nice view. The grounds are excellent with lots of places to sit outside and enjoy the peace and quiet. Very good coffee and carrot cake from the shop. Staff were all very friendly.

We spent a weekend at Te Mahia resort in August. What a great time to go, it was so quiet and peaceful and we were so lucky with the weather.

We stayed in the beachfront motel units, they are huge and very comfortable. The views out over the bay and across Kenepuru sound are stunning. All the mod cons in the unit (our only concern was the lack of heating - the one heater in our room really didn't do the job - but we just borrowed one from another unit - wouldn't be a problem any other time of the year), and a small shop on site. There are lots of secluded little areas, with outdoor furniture everywhere.

The owners were away, but the minders were friendly and really nice.

Just what we needed, and we'll definitely be back

Only a two minute drive from the Queen Charlotte track, which gave us a chance to get our daily exercise on Saturday morning (and an excuse to drink wine in the sun all afternoon)

Arrived late Friday as the sun was setting. Relief host willingly launched the boat so we could put it on a mooring. Thrilled and surprised at the size of our accommodation. Spotless motel and comfortable beds. Stunning beach environment with walks handy. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: We were at the end of a small row (5) of motels and it was very quiet and relaxing with excellent vi...

This lodge is off the beaten track and instantly on arrival provides a wonderful retreat worlds away from the real world. Wonderful friendlyhosts filling in for owners overseas. Great gourmet pizza and meals available and bar meals at Portage Hotel 15 mins away. Plenty of walks and bays to visit. A must stay on any itinerary

Room Tip: Waterfront modern apartments an excellent choice with uninterupted views
