I got this room for $69 per night on a stay 3 get 20% deal Sept 20,2013. I would not pay more for the room. However, for that price, knowing Biloxi well, one can endure. The room did smell like urine. The refrigerator was broken, and the desk and desk chair was missing. All of that was cordially handled by the front desk clerk. Despite the friendliness, I was tired and did not want to spend 2.5 hours getting my room the way it should be. The desk chair that was brought inform another room was so filthy that I could not get it clean. The next day I asked them to remove it. The third day I broke out into a horrible rash. Housekeeping pulled the filter out of the a/c and it was filthy. She replaced it. In general, my impression was that the lobby was not welcome to the guests. The staff needed it to fold laundry in. Probably why breakfast ends at 9am. Housekeeping wants the room to itself, preferably without you in it. I skipped housekeeping until the last day, and just got clean towels and trash removed. As far as cleanliness in general, It was average. The bed linen was clean, and they claim to clean the quilts between guests. I am not sure I believe that.
The laundry is done on site by the staff. While the towels were good quality, some were stained and I could not use them. The counters were updated to granite, and the carpet looked new. The sitting chair was filthy. I kept a towel over it. The housekeeping staff is attentive to their job, although a bit proprietary over guests privacy.
Overall, having stayed all my life in Biloxi and Gulf Coast hotels, including Beau Rivage and Imperial Palace, this one is an OK choice if you don't have the money. It is a step above from some of the less expensive ones west of this that are privately owned and in a less safe area. I was with a child, and we felt safe. There was always staff 24 hrs watching the lobby. The Shaggys restaurant across the street is open late and family friendly. The beach is across the road, and it is an easy place to walk across. Also, you can get in the car and drive less than a mile east to park at the public beach area. The beach was cleaner than at the west end, although the city of Biloxi does not seem to clean debris off their beach. Keep in mind that this is not clean water...brownish. Locals do not swim in this beach area like they do in Florida. It is just for the sand and the scenery. Another seafood restaurant is being built across the street that looks nice, and waffle house is there too.
I see a lot of comment about the pool. I am picky about pools, and I liked this one. The pool furniture was new and clean. There were some leaves in the pool, but that is because they have planted a lot around it for privacy from the road. It was small, but adequate. You can see the beach from the pool. I felt safe because it is in the front in sight of the office and parking lot. It stayed open till 9 or 10 pm. The location on the beach is great. Getting to the casinos to the east is easy, but away from the noise and traffic. Getting to Pass Road for fast food if you have kids is fast and close on that end of the beach. Getting over the bridge to Ocean Springs and all the restaurants and nightlife of downtown off Washington is fast and east and a nice drive.
The sister property to this (same owner) is the Quality Inn further west on the beach. We have stayed there many times also. That pool is bigger, and breakfast is nicer and open later. It has a nicer lobby. The beach there is a little dirtier, but also an easy walk across the street. There is no good public beach down there to drive to in my opinion, although it is closer to the marina in case you are taking the ferry to Ship Island.
To sum it up...if you stay here, expect some problems. They will be met with friendly staff and corrected. The hotel is in the process of being updated, so maybe things will be fixed soon. I was happy to get 4 nites for less than $325. We were safe, and slept in clean beds, had a fridge and a microwave, a pool, and breakfast included. That was enough for our purposes. For a little over that, $100 -$125 per night, we could have stayed at the Grand, Golden Nugget, Edgewater, or right on the beach at South Beach condos maybe. If it is a big occasion and you can afford it, stay someplace else. If you cannot afford it, this one,or the Quality Inn, is a safe and clean enough choice. You could do a lot worse in Biloxi!
