Hollywood Casino & Hotel Gulf Coast

Just got back from Mississippi early this week and we had such a great time. We only spent one night at the Hollywood Casino but it was worth it. We had a nice view of the back bay from our room and the staff is very friendly. I guess thats what they mean when they say southern hospitality. We did not do a whole lot of gambling since I am not a gambling person so I can't tell you how the machines pay out. Just your standard average casino hotel. The only bad thing was it was raining the day we were there so we didn't get to swim in the pool which looked very nice and well kept.

Room Tip: Ask for a water view room.

We were fortunate to spend a night overlooking the water in a very nice room. The king bed was very comfortable, and ample pillows. It was nice to stay at the casino, and not worry about driving afterwards back home to New Orleans. The buffet was diverse, and the crab legs plentiful. The pasta bar enables you to make a supurb dish custom made by you.
Breakfast was the only meal that did not offer much choice. The Celebrity Grill is the only place to get breakfast. The casino is small and the staff friendly.

Room Tip: Ask for a suite or junior suite with a water view.

This is mainly a casino, not a luxury hotel. If you are expecting a basically comfortable room, with basic amenities, you will be satisfied. The price is good and the grounds of the hotel are nice. There are large numbers of busses depositing people at the Casino, but we never had a problem getting a machine. The food in the restaurant ( not the Epic buffet....) was good and reasonably priced.

I read the reviews before hand and brought my own pillow, but I thought the room was fine.

Whatever you do, don't miss going into Old Town Bay St. Louis. Cute shops, great little eateries and overall fun place to visit...even in a rainstorm. Make sure you go to the Antique Mall on 2nd Street about one block of main. Many fabulous things there!!!!

We did smell heavy smoke downstairs in some location, but it was not a problem in our room.

Room Tip: Choose non smoking room away from the elevator and ice machines

My husband and I stayed at the casino for two nights. I loved the room and the view of the water! Overall, the room was clean except for a stain on one of the chairs. Its a fun, lively place that's really nice and relaxing. Yes, the cafe is a little pricey but its a resort so that's expected. Its not too big so that its impersonal and not to small so as to be boring! I really enjoyed myself and cant wait to return!

Room Tip: choose a room with a waterfront view. the sunset is amazing!

The room was just what I asked for and the beds and bathroom were clean. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The children loved the swimming pool. The only negative thing that I can say is that it looked like someone had spilled some kind of drink on the carpet and it needed cleaning. Other than that I would stay here again.

Room Tip: First time here and stayed on the 9th floor and had no problems

Thank goodness we had a group rate of 'only' $119.. I still feel we overpaid. Booked well in advance, arrived at 5:00p after driving 9 hours to event; rooms weren't ready. We were attending a wedding, worse for the bridesmaids whose rooms weren't ready! As noted in other Trip Advisor reviews the first thing that we noticed upon arrival was the very heavy cigarette smoke smell...and the casino wasn't even very full. We were amazed at the overall shabby condition, considering the hotel was remodeled and bought by Hollywood after Katrina in '05. The tub & shower was not clean and mildewed. Stains on the upholstered furniture, carpet... just looked unclean. I obtained extra towels & bedsheet to place on furniture and sheet over the stained bedspread. Yes, that bad. If it wasn't that it was July 4 weekend and there was nothing else available we would not have stayed at all. Those of our group compared notes, and it was about the same in every room. Bring your own toiletries... they only offer 1 small bottle of shampoo/conditioner & small pat of soap. It's a small thing, but really? We will NOT return....

Room Tip: Walls are paper thin... pillows are uncomfortable... we were in 207 Only happy note was the in-hou...

We occasionally stay here for a night or two getaway. It's only about 25 miles from home. Although we're normally staying here on comps, the rates are reasonable. The rooms are very clean and comfortable, and housekeeping does a great job.

Room Tip: Ask for a bayside room - the view is much better.
