“Solid and able to handle large groups”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 7, 2013 via mobile

I've been here often over many years, usually for happy hour. I hosted a group of 26 people from work on a Friday night recently and wanted to review the experience. I was able to get a reservation on fairly short notice (2 days) at the peak of the weekend. Service was quite good for a group of this size and the group sat comfortably at two long tables. I thought the food was ok, but others with me said it was great - maybe I'm getting too picky! Wine recommendations were good as well. Overall, this is a pretty good place to host a very large group.

“Good food but nothing special...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 27, 2013

I would have rated this restaurant 3.5 stars, but I don't think we could indicate a 1/2 star, so I'm bumping it up to 4 stars. The restaurant had a good ambience for dinner, which is when we visited. The noise level is not too high, however it could still be a little more quiet for me. I don't think it helped when we were seated next to a station where they kept extra utensils, glasses, etc., so there was some traffic close to our table. Our server was friendly and very prompt at bringing in our drink and food orders. The martini I ordered was not really as cold I was would have expected and it also didn't taste like it had enough vodka. Our appetizer, Ahi Tuna, was actually quite good, although it wasn't the best Ahi Tuna I've had. My main dish was the roasted duck, which was one of their specials for that evening. The duck was very tender (which I liked a lot) and was a generous portion, but I'm not sure why it came with hash browns. I think it would have been better combined with baked or mashed potatoes of some kind. My hubby had the prime rib and it was very good, according to him. We didn't order any desserts as we got really full from our meals (I haven't had some leftover duck to take home).

All in all, our experience at this restaurant wasn't too bad, but it would not be a top choice when deciding where to have dinner.

“Great Walleye and Happy Hour!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 26, 2013

Sunsets has a great Happy Hour several times a day. Great deals on great appetizers...mushrooms, beans and much more.
The pan fried walleye and the wild rice soup is the best around!
The patio is also very nice in the summer time. We come here often.

“Underwhelming..”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 1, 2013

It started at the bar. I ordered a martini, and when the bartender was making it, one of his regulars it seemed was grabbing olives with his filthy hands out of the same container. I mentioned to the bartender that maybe he should throw them out, and he seemed unconcerned. Finally got seated and ordered the lobster egg rolls on the recommendation of the waitress. The first bite was great, the second was almost frozen. The waitress was very friendly and brought us another order. Our food arrived soon after, my wife's Halibut was very over cooked and dry. We didn't spend much more time there, and went somewhere else for desert. Would not recommend this place for a special occasion meal.

“Meh”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 29, 2012

We've been here several times, and I am just not impressed. The Sunday brunch buffet has a large selection, but last time we were there the eggs benedict was way undercooked (most of the egg whites were runny - gross!) and a man in line for food was dealing with an obvious phlegm problem (ew. And he was not a bad representation of many of the patrons.) The food is bland so the wide variety is a moot point. Oh, and it's incredibly overpriced, not only considering the food quality but the waitresses (who seem better suited for a diner), too.

Happy hour is a little better - you can't really mess up liquor, and their apps ar a little better than the brunch selection. Still not great. Sad, because this place has such potential.
