“Chillpill”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 24, 2012

While visiting Winona for work I chose to stay at the Days Inn, simply on the fair price from hotels.com. There are several accomidating restaurants and entertainment close by, the veterans park on hwy 61 is beautiful! The one staff member in particular on the other hand was very un welcoming and uptight. Didnt respond very politely to my questions and made a scene at breakfast for one gentleman that wanted to use the microwave for his outmeal and proceeded to tell him that was not allowed and that was what the hot water was for......really?....she needs a chill pill! It left me feeling sorry for this man and uncomfortable. She did accomidate my request for a late stay, but obviously didnt tell the housekeeping staff since they came to the door twice, one without knocking since they thought I had already left. Felt bad for them too since it was not their fault. Dont know your name dear, but step back and think about your actions and how it makes others feel.

We were in Winona on vacation and weren't going to spend a lot of time in a hotel, so we wanted something reasonable and didn't care about extras like a pool, etc.
We were very pleased with the Days Inn. It was a good price and included a free breakfast until 10:00AM. The room was very clean and the staff was really polite. The hotel was quiet and we had a very pleasant stay. Would recommend!

We stayed at Day's Inn on August 10th. This Inn is located in a nice area of Winona. The rooms are smaller than what we are used to, but very clean. They do not have an elevator, so if you have trouble with the stairs, ask for a room on the 1st floor when booking. The desk clerk was very helpful and told us about a lookout, overlooking Winona Lake and the Mississippi. A must see! She even gave us a map. She recommended the Mexican restaurant across the street and we were not disappointed. Excellent food and reasonable prices. We rode our motorcycles from Wisconsin and the nice perk at this Inn was that they supply motorcycle rags to wipe off the dew on your bikes in the morning. If you are going to pay in cash, not with a credit card, you need to have the "exact" dollars and cents. We would definitely stay at this Inn again.

Room Tip: Just a reminder, no elevator.

Hotel is adequate, simple typical free breakfast, again adequate, room was clean and ok but a bit noisy. Staff was friendly both times we stayed here. Reasonable price. WiFi is free but we did have trouble connecting at first

Overall, a very pleasant experience. I'll mention the pros and and one con (which I wouldn't normally mention, but since it's fresh in my mind I will.)

The Good: Good price. Nice, clean room. Well-maintained property. Breakfast was free and included made-to-order waffles. Close to several restaurants including the Ground Round, Mango's (very good Mexican food). It's on the outskirts of Winona, but just a few minutes to the downtown area, Winona State campus, etc.)

The Not-so-Good: Got a room on Priceline. Knew going into it that it was for a single room, but called in advance to request double queen room. Upcharged $20 per night when I was told it would be only $10 (not only by the person on the phone, but the person who checked us in). At check out, hotel manager not willing to budge and was somewhat condescending. Charged us instead for a 3rd person (which was cheaper than the $20) ... then told me how we broke the fire code, blah, blah, blah. I guess in Minnesota you can only have two people in a double room. Doesn't quite make sense. To make a long story somewhat shorter, it's not necessarily about the money, it's just the principle of being told one thing and being told something else.

Dear Karch72,

Thank you for the kinds words in your review. We certainly try to offer our guests great accommodations at a reasonable price.

Please accept our apology if we were misleading on the rates for the room upgrade. Priceline.com and other online booking agents sometimes have fine print that outlines how they book rooms. In Priceline's case the rooms booked are for 2 people per room. This is stated in their Important Information section just under the area where you enter your credit card information. These policies are set by Priceline.com and not the hotel. In the future we would recommend booking Daysinn.com or calling the hotel directly as the policies will be much more straight forward and the rates will be the same.

Thank you again for staying with us and we hope to see you again in the future.

My husband booked our weekend stay via Expedia. We were visiting family in the area, didn't think we needed to book too far in advance, however lots of stuff going on in Winona July 20-22, 2012. Days Inn was the only hotel left, we got the last room. I called a couple of days prior to our arrival to see if they had a refrigerator to put in the room. We have a 10m old and I make his food and had bottles for him. When I called, I was informed my husband had booked a 1 Queen bed room, we also have an 8yr old. The staff member said we would be violating the fire code, but then found us a 2Q room :)
I called to say we would not be checking in until 7pm, she assured us our room would be waiting and they had the fridge in there and it was cooling down for us.
Check in was quick and we rec'd a call an hour later, just to see if we need anything and to make sure our room was ok. It was beyond ok, I was dreading the (4) of us sharing a room, with a pac'N Play, our room was huge. Plently of floor area for the baby to play and take his 1st crawl steps.
The service at breakfast was wonderful not only to us but others as well. If we need to stay @ hotel in Winona again, we will definitely be staying there!
The bathroom area was seperated with a wall divider, the shower & toilet were enclosed w/a door and there were (2) bathroom sinks, very handy!

Room Tip: If you have a family with you and need space for a crib or pack'N Play ask for the family room

The rooms are clean and the furnishings are relatively nice. Definitely above average compared to other hotels in this price point. The staff will make waffles for you. The location is outside of walking distance from downtown Winona, but a short drive there.
