“Free nature experience for families”

Tamarack Nature Center
Reviewed August 1, 2013

My grandkids love Tamarack. Lots of interesting activities for families including learning about critters in the area, walking through the woods, rustic playground and urban garden.

You can walk at your own pace and see nature. It can be exhilarating. Sometimes sitting on a bench is the answer.

Convenient and easy to find. Nice enough trails for having a good outdoor walk - it is a nature center, so not expecting flat and solid trail. When we visit, now from out-of-town, we always make it a point to stop in for a walk with the kids (ages 5 thru 10). Used to hike here as a kid - great memories!

I like Tamarack Nature Center because it is close to our house, which makes it convenient when I want to go cross-country skiing.
Unfortunately there are several cons to Tamarack. The quality of the trail is often deficient. It is not groomed as often as it should be and the trail is often broken with snowshoe and boot tracks. The trail is also frequently littered with dog poop, which is annoying to ski over.
Ultimately, the quality of your experience will depend on the day and the amount of snow. My last ski here was not great. The trail was icy and the tracks were virtually non-existent. I'm praying for more snow so I can go back and try it again under better conditions.

Great outdoor spot tucked away in the city of White Bear Lake, but close enough to downtown and/or freeway/35E. Alot of walking paths, woods and things for kids to do year round. Great for cross-country skiing too.
