This hotel is a great place to stay. It was very, very clean. The staff were friendly. The room was good sized, clean, and quiet. Bed were comfortable. The breakfast in the mornings by the pool was very good. Never ran out of food. Outside is well lighted at night, plenty of parking.

Descent hotel with friendly service. Roomy accommodations. Clean. Very friendly stuff. They kept a parcel for us that arrived couple days before. Very picturesque pool area but we did not get to use it (too busy shopping).
Not very good soundproofing. Heard every door slam on the floor. It is far from Minneapolis - about 25 min. drive but the area has lakes and nice restaurants on the shore so you don't feel you are in a big city.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write about your experience staying at the White Bear Country Inn. We take all comments to our staff to see where we can improve and also to let them know where and when they have done well. We are in the process of a large renovation in 2011 and will look into the sound proofing to see how we could improve.

We hope you will come and visit us again soon and get a chance to enjoy our pool and whirlpool. Thanks again for your time.

Sincerely

We were staying in Minneapolis for business and this place was recommended by a local so we tried it. We actually really enjoyed this place. Not much to look at on the outside but inside was quite enjoyable. The room was very comfortable and bordered being plush. Amazingly comfortable bed and the room was decorated very nicely. The pool area was indoors and was playful. The restaurant was well worth the expense as was the service at the bar. We enjoyed our weekend there enough to recommend it to others as we look forward to our next visit there.

Thank you so much for taking the time out of your busy schedules to write a review on your stay at the White Bear Country Inn. We truly appreciate all comments good or bad so we can see where we are doing well and should continue and where we may need to improve. We have weekly staff meetings to go over all guest comments and requests. We are so happy you took the advice of one of our great local residents and gave us a chance. We are one of those unique hotels located just out side of the downtown areas for easy access but still has some of that smalltown charm.

In 2011 we will be going through a huge renovation to upgrade the outside appearance and landscaping as well as many wonderful upgrades and additions to the inside of the property, so please come back again soon to see all the fun new changes.

Sincerely,

Bill Foussard, Owner

I was worried about previous reviews I read about the place being noisy - especially on weekends. We were to stay Tues-Thurs so we gave it a shot. It was fine. Travel soccer teams were in their beds by 11 p.m. The pool area was active - but not overly noisy only till 11 p.m. The complimentary breakfast buffet netted hard boiled eggs, cereal and self-prepared waffles...which were pretty good. The staff was nice and you received a free daily newspaper. McD's is right next door, but it was not needed.

We stayed here twice during our US vacation, once when visiting family in nearby St Paul and secondly the night before we flew home. The hotel itself was very nice inside and our room was so nice and cosy and looked to have been updated recently with flat screen TV's. The pool was out of this world as the setting around it was like an italian courtyard. The staff were very helpful and friendly, including Nick the guest services manager who went the extra mile to locate some lost property we'd left behind the first time we stayed there. Only a 20 minute drive from downtown St Paul and 30 minutes from Mall of America and MSP Airport, which was very handy for us..

Would DEFINTLEY stay here again if we come accross in the future?

I found this hotel to be very clean and comfortable, and everything was in good working order and repair.

The breakfast has a lot of room for improvement. Don't expect anything but the very basics. We went to Keys Restaurant both mornings for breakfast, and that was very good.

One complaint: they have a ball room and a bar in this hotel. The second night we stayed there, a wedding reception was taking place in the ballroom. The thumping music came through the walls, but management was able to convince the DJ to turn the bass down and we were able to fall asleep. However, at midnight the reception (about 50, mostly drunk people) spilled into the pool/courtyard directly below our room. The courtyard area became a very loud echo chamber. Security moved everyone over near the bar, but the party continued until 1:15 a.m., at which time they filled the hotel halls, running up and down the halls yelling and screaming. We finally were able to fall asleep around 2:00 a.m.

The desk staff stated they were unable to give us a discount on our room, however an email to the general manager proved effective and an apology was offered and a discount given.

Great place to stay, but check to make sure they don't have anything going on in the ballroom on the night you want to stay there.

I had a group of rooms for a project we were doing in the St. Paul, MN area. This is one of the top top Best Western's in the USA, in my opinion. We had various changes of rooms and suites to accomodate some individual issues. Never once did Sao or any of the front desk personnel complain or even give a hint of attitude, and trust me, we had a lot of changes (no problems with the rooms, just typical issues with tastes of individuals in our group). They acommodated us with very large shipping issues, all with big smiles and an "at your service" attitude. It's almost like being transported in a time machine back to the 50's when good service was the norm and not an exception.

This hotel has probably one of the restaurants EVER in over 100 stays for me at various hotels across the country. Not to be rude, but one of our VP's said "This is a Best Western?" because the food was so varied and excellent it was way above a 3 star experience anytime we ate in the restaurant.

Nice rooms, nice staff and good food, who could ask for anything more?
