We had a perfect stay at Bruny Beachside with our 3 year old son, our 3 week old son and our old dog! The weather was fantastic, and we loved the private deck with BBQ, the location right across the road from the beach.

We had the beach to ourselves most days, splashing in the shallow sheltered bay, right near the jetty.

We enjoyed coffee and cake at the cafe just along the road and cooked up a storm in the kitchen.

The cottage had everything we needed to enjoy a our first family holiday after baby number 2 arrived and we can't wait to go back! Have re-booked for next jan... a longer stay this time in the bigger house so we can bring some friends along too!!!

Washing machine, microwave, bread maker etc all makes life easier too!

Highly recommended, a great quiet part of the island but easy to access everything you need!

Room Tip: The Nebraska house is stand alone and great for privacy, for 2 families travelling together the other 2 are co-joined and great to be together but can close off for privacy too. Fantastic spot, bring the boat if you are a local!

Our stay at "Kelly's" got off to a bad start. A full rubbish bin had been left sitting in the sun at the front door - maybe for days. When we entered the cottage for the first time, the stench filled the rooms. It was a sickening stink. We opened our back door to find another bin from the adjacent unit in the same condition.

It seems that the owner does not live on Bruny Is. Contact details on their website are for 93a New Town Rd., New Town, which is a suburb of Hobart. The actual address of the Beachside cottages is 31-33 Nebraska Rd. Dennes Pt, Bruny Island.

Management seems to be very 'hands off'. There was no evidence of the initiative it takes to run a good place well.

Examples: the service directory instructs guests to empty their rubbish bins in large metal drums at the back of the property and to clean up the BBQ after use. But both these items had just been left to rot. As we attended to those filthy jobs we found there were no new bin liners.

Two towel rails in the bathroom were screwed to the wall and the screws had worked loose. They fell off during our stay. The basin faucet was also working loose;

We couldn't get TV reception. We rang the contact number and were told to ring Margaret instead, who told us she was "2 hours away". A 20 min. phone conversation with her elicited no solution. She gave us access to the adjoining cottage in order to exchange one set top box for another, saying they were exactly the same - but they were different. Interestingly, the adjoining cottage's TV had no reception either. We gave up.

We started to expect more irritating hitches and sure enough, the guest service directory had inadequate instructions to get the oven started.

Next day I used the powder provided in the small plastic bottle for the front-loading washing machine. That turned into a bit of drama with suds everywhere because it was the wrong powder.

But it could easily be so much better! Kelly's has a lot going for it. Even though you can't see good views from the property, Kelly's location is excellent. - just across the road from the beach (although you couldn't supervise small children on the beach from your deck as another website claims). The very good cafe/restaurant on Dennes point is not far.

Kelly's feels fresh and new and contains attractive, good quality furniture & fittings. It was exceptionally clean inside. The mattresses were very comfortable, the synthetic blankets were light, very soft and cosy - best I've ever seen - and the bedlinen had even been commercially laundered. There were some unexpected extras too: a second fridge, and some useful basic cooking supplies, which was generous.

What's needed is a local resident with enough initiative to manage it properly and ensure everything is in order before paying guests arrive. Bruny Island has a permanent population so that is not a big ask.

People booking Kelly's would do well to pay the balance owing only after they have arrived and to insist that they are met at check-in. I did neither which was a mistake.

The issues on rubbish that the guest has outlined would have been solved immediately had they contacted me straight away, .... they would have been offered a different cottage, with a free upgrade. Our cleaner of the day is no longer working with us.
We do not, and have never, asked guests to clean the barbecues. We ask that external rubbish is out in the bins provided, with the lids on tight, so as not to attract possums, which anyone who has spent time in the Australian bush or countryside, will acknowledge is sometimes a possibility.

The television reception is still a mystery. When our maintenance man went to address the issue, aside from having to plug the antenna into the back of the reception box, there was no problem. We have had no problems before, and none since. Our instructions for TV & DVD use in our guest compendiums are user friendly, and we usually have no queries about this. We are looking at ways of being able to exclude guests from accessing the plugs at the back of the television sets & DVD players to avoid accidental crossing of the plugs etc.

We provide enough specialised washing LIQUID for several loads for our front loader washing machines. I am not sure if this guest used something brought along by her host, (who was the person who made the booking with me). Following the instructions, the low suds formula ensures that it is safe, and environmentally desirable for our modern rainwater system.

As the owners, we do not live locally, but nor do the majority of accommodation business owners. We do, however, have a wonderful team of local maintenance people, cleaners, and someone to meet and greet if requested. All of these people live minutes away, and we value them highly. Most work for several of the accommodation businesses on Bruny Island, and are experienced and reliable.

We are thrilled that our guests do enjoy their stay, as reflected by our in-house guestbooks. We encourage them to immediately contact the staff, who are available 24/7 if there is any little thing we can do to make their holiday a totally wonderful memory.
Regards, Roy & Margaret Easton

We arrived on a great sunny day to a beautiful new house, right on the white sandy beach, where can watch the kids play from our deck when we come here again. The house is very well appointed, even a bread maker, with a packet of breadmix supplied. The loaf we made was delicious.
Beds are all new, warm and comfy and we slept like logs with the sound of the waves and all the pure fresh air .
When we walked along to the jetty, only a few yards, we were thrilled to catch a fish with the fishing tackle supplied in the house, which we cooked on the gas BBQ. How good is that? These hosts certainly go the extra mile for you.
Everything was lovely and new and clean, flat screen TV and DVD player and set top box, which we hadn't expected to find on the island.
Drove down the island to see the penguin rookery and bought some yummy oysters, cheese and chocolate fudge. Scenery on the way is spectacular. We really felt we had been on holiday.
Certainly we will be coming back and would recommend it for a romantic weekend or a family island holiday.
