We are a bit of a regular visitor to Trenannick Cottages and have stayed in 4 of the cottages over the years. Everything is near perfect - Ash is the smallest but ideal for 2 people although it sleeps 4. Facilities are as good as we have at home including the wood burning fire. The kitchen is well equipped with washing machine cooker, microwave and fridge. TV with an awesome sound enhancer and DVD player.
Basically you could stay here and not move but with the surrounding places to visit it is unlikely to be your first thought. Post Isaac (Port Went for Doc Martin fans) is less than 10 miles away as is Boscastle, Crackington Haven and Bude. A bit further on is Padstow (park in Rock on the other side of the estuary and get the ferry over) and wander around a delightful old fishing port and stop for a real Cornish Pasty or visit Rick Steins Fish and Chip restaurant for the best you will ever taste. There is a lot to see in Bodmin, including the Jail, and Launceston, which is the biggest town nearby and is the only place with what you could call decent shops. Trago Mills is a shoppers paradise. Its a cut price department store where decent things are genuinely cheap. We go there every visit to stock up on both necessary items as well as those you buy 'cos they are so cheap!! Pencarrow House and Lanhydrock House are well worth a visit. Lanhydrock is National Trust and Pencarrow is still privately owned. Both about 15 miles away.
Im saving the best till last. Bude we love but don't really know why. Quite a good shopping town with a large Sainsburys and an even larger Morrisons with a good cafe. 2 beaches, Crooklets and Summerleaze and a lovely walk between them over the clifftop. At low tide you can walk along the shore between the beaches and there are plenty of places to walk from the Summerleaze beach.
We go there every year and haven't tired of it. The real crowning glory are the owners Geoff and Lorraine. They keep the cottages in perfect condition and are always on call if you need them. They are a mine of information about the area and are will pander to your every need to make your holiday really perfect.
We had such a nice holiday at Ash cottage. Everything was even better than described and both hosts were very friendly and helpful.
Thank you very much for the perfect experience!
This beautiful cottage near Crackington Haven was a last-minute booking for a short stop-over. It was perfectly-sized for our family of four, and has the most stunning views of the surrounding countryside including a nearby bronze-age monument. Perfectly positioned for visits along the coast to Bude, Tintagel, and Rock, this really is a great base for those seeking Cornish adventure.
Lorraine the owner was so welcoming, and gave us some great tips for local pubs and restaurants during our stay. Despite the changeable weather, there was plenty to see and do nearby, including walks around the beaches at Crackington Haven and Widemouth Bay.
The cottage itself is so cosy and my children (aged 11 and 12) absolutely loved making a fire in the log burner when we returned to the cottage after a windswept visit to nearby Boscastle for dinner. We found the kitchen to be well-equipped with everything you might need, and loved the 'homely' feel of the real china and vintage cutlery. I can't think of anything we'd want to change - we loved the comfy beds, the pygmy goats, the gnarled trees on the long driveway...all of it! It was an absolute gem of a find, and as a family we would go back in a heartbeat; thoroughly recommended.
