We were down for a trip to Shooting Star and noticed the sign on route 59. We decided to take a look and were very pleasantly surprised. Impressive decor. Very friendly staff in all areas of the operation. Large rooms. Everything under one roof, no need to go elsewhere. We were curious on the rates and were taken aback by the low rates, so we decided to spend the night rather than return to Canada as we had planned. The only suggestion we would have would be to have a little more information on your highway sign. It does not say which way to the resort nor how far and it is not visible from the highway. We highly recommend...

What was supposed to be a relaxing weekend started out on a bad note when the hotel lost one of our reservations. I had reserved 6 rooms & when my family members started arriving they were told there were only 5 rooms available. Thank Goodness I had called the "not so friendly" hotel clerk earlier in the week & confirmed my reservations. Although none of that seemed to matter as every desk clerk would only tell us that there were only 5 rooms available & they were all sold out for the night. While I was on the phone telling the desk clerk my confirmation #'s & who confirmed them I was actually told "It's not my fault asl I didn't do that -- You'll have to speak to the person who confirmed them". After a lengthy time talking to each person at the front desk they actually did find the last room & we were able to check in.
Pool area was great & reasonably priced too however there were NO Pool towels available the whole weekend. They have a nice game room area for the kids however MOST of the games are all out of order or just ate your quarters. The Pop machine also ate our money & didn't give us a soda.
The rooms are nice however you need to speak up when there's a knock on your door or the housekeeper will be in your room with no further warning.
The Morning Breakfast Buffet was overpriced for the lack of food they were serving. The meat was burnt & most of the pans were empty @ 10 am. When the concern was brought up we were told "Sorry" with not much meaning & expected to pay the entire bill.
Also don't mess around passed 11 if your bags are still in your hotel room because the locks automatically change & your keycard no longer works. When we asked someone in the hall to unlock the door so we could get our bags we were told to go to the front desk where a Late Fee would probably be added to reactivate the card.
Honestly the hotel is a decent place however the Lack of Service & Friendliness in all of the above events certainly put a damper on returning to this hotel anytime soon!

I stay at the Thief River Falls water park and casino every few months. The main reason is the waterpark. My children love the indoor water park. The water is warm and there is something there for everyone: a hot tub for adults, a kiddie area that starts at about 1 inch deep with children's slides, squirt guns, a pool, a tube river ride and a few waterslides. Even my teenage niece had a blast here.

The staff is very friendly at the hotel. It is always clean and well maintained. The rooms are large with 2 beds and a futon, and easily sleep six. There is a coffee maker and fridge in every room. There is also a balcony, patio doors, a tv with a bunch of channels.

The casino has free coffee and soft drinks available for gamers. There are a variety of slot machines ranging from pennies and up. (poker, progressive, theme games etc.) There are a few card tables as well. It is in the basement and tends to get very smoky by the end of the night.

The casino is on a dry reserve so no alcohol is permitted on site, if major partying is for you them this place is NOT for you!

The casino offers a free membership program that gives incentives such as a room rental for a low rate or bonus match play chips.

There is one restuarant on site that offers a menu and/or buffet. The food is in my opinion, just okay but it is reasonably priced. There is a 50s style diner (sandwiches and ice cream) and a snack shop (for pizza) in the waterpark as well. There is a gift shop for snacks like chocolate bars and chips and some other items for sale. I think more food variety is required on site but the town is only about 15 minutes away from the hotel and has other eating options.

There is a small area for children to play games like pinball, video, bang the crocodile on the head with a hammer etc. It is like a Ruckers where you can earn tickets to "buy" small prizes. It will keep the kids busy for a while.

There is no supervised play area (e.g. for crafts coloring, etc.) and no play structure on site.

Also there is nothing right outside the hotel, it is in the middle of nowhere. You have to go into the town by vehicle. The casino does not provide a shuttle to the town.

In my opinion, the hotel is not cheap: as the rooms run about 110-120 USD a night. Guests also have to buy their wristbands for the waterpark at a cost of 5 USD per person per day. It is not included with the hotel room rental. Non hotel guests can play at the waterpark for 10USD per day.

There is a golf course not far from the hotel as well as a small town for some shopping.

Overall, this is a nice place to go for a break from the cold winters we have in the North. The kids will be busy and sleep well at night. The hotel's website claims the waterpark is the largest in North America, I'm not so sure about that but it is definitely a lot of fun. You might even get lucky and win in the casino, you never know! Happy Sliding, see you in the Falls,.
