“Outdated, terrible food, not impressed”
Reviewed May 13, 2014

The decor is terrible like going back to the 1970s. Salad bar ok. Drink selection awful, mostly cheap liquor and wine. Ordered the chicken, yikes it was terrible, soggy and dripping with oil. Will not be back. Over priced for frozen food.

“Someone needs to correct Gary N of Willmar”
Reviewed November 10, 2013 via mobile

Gary N of Willmar I believe you have confused the Ranch House in Walker, MN with the River House in Hackensack, MN. The River House is now under new owners and it is now called the Birchwood Char House. So not sure where you really ate but think you put review about the Ranch House in Walker, MN

“Relaxing and enjoyable meal”
Reviewed October 12, 2013

A local business owner recommended a dinner at The Ranch, so we drove the short four miles north of Walker for dinner. There are all you can eat specials most evenings, but we chose to have sandwiches and the salad bar. I would recommend the patty melt burger - a nicely cooked half-pound of beef with pieces of browned onion on delicious bread was the best patty melt I have had. The salad bar was very good; I enjoyed the wild rice salad and the soup most. Our server was delightful, very friendly and efficient. The restaurant was busy, so that's always a good sign. We will eat there again on our next visit to Walker, MN.

“Great Food and a Great Atmosphere”
Reviewed October 4, 2013

What a gem of a place. Really atmospheric, with an extensive menu and great food. Visited a number of times. Staff were really friendly, and nothing was too much trouble.

“Old fashioned 'Supper Club' charm; excellent food.”
Reviewed September 24, 2013

Went there several times this sumer after sailing Leech Lake with friends. ALways went for the same treat -- a pound and half Ribeye with mushrooms and onions that was absolutely 'to die for'! However, we have also tried on other occasions the Ultimate Burger (3/4 pounder that can be a splittable if youre not starving) that features some of the best tasting beef I have ever had in a hamburger.
Owner, Kris, is German and a delightful soul. She has kept this place alive with an indomitable spriit and the help of some great folks for many years. If you speak any German, you will be delighted to know that she appreciates the efforts. She is a wonderful, and kind, and someone you would be fortunate to meet.
Unfortunately, Dave, the chief cook has just left, so we don't know what the future will hold. But despite everything else, I think it is important to keep icons like this alive, if nothing else but to remind us that there was a much better time and way of life in this country before 'fast food' took over.
Even the music, which dates back to a much better and earlier time, it a delight in itself, as is the soup and salad bar.
Go, and enjoy! You won't have many years left to enjoy unique places like this as our cluture becomes more and more homogeneous every day.
