My sister and I took an up North long weekend the end of March. We decided to see the falls!! It was the first nice day in months and there were a lot of people also enjoying the falls. There were many, many signs posted to make sure to have grippers on the bottom of your shoes as it was very slippery. However, I didn't notice anyone paying attention to the notice. Getting down to the falls was a bit tricky since the stairs were all snow covered. It was part of the fun of the falls though.
It was really interesting to see it in the winter. Normally I go sightseeing early in the morning to avoid the people as it allows for better photos. However, this day it was really awesome hearing everyone having so much fun out in the winter wonderland around Gooseberry Falls. It seemed everyone was in high spirits which made for a really awesome experience. The visitor center was open and the items there are a bit expensive.
The falls were frozen over with some water running under the frozen falls. It was beautiful. It is very easy to get to off the main road and I highly recommend it, no matter what time of year it is.

Even on a very cold day in February this was a place worth visiting. We only visited the lower falls closer to the visitors center and they were completely frozen! Beautiful!

One of our favorite parks for winter cc skiing. In spite of a 12" snowfall plus fierce winds, park crew got many of the trails beautifully groomed for us classical skiers.

I usually like to go to Gooseberry Falls for camping or in the summer but we happened to be up in the area so we decided to check out the frozen falls. They did look very cool. We were on snow shoe and at times it was very steep and slippery on the steps. Be careful! The river underneath was still running so be careful to watch where you step. There was definitely open water in spots but it was covered partially by snow.

We had just seen Goosebury in the summer and fell in love! We wanted to see the waterfalls under the frozen setting and were again enchanted by the power and beauty of the nature. We were able to walk right under the frozen falls. The best spot was at the top of the second falls; we were able to stand on the ice above the flowing water and hear and feel the sound and power of the water beneath us!
We were like little kids again; we slid down the stairs, slid down the falls and went trudging through the hip-deep snow! We brought our snow gear but were having too much fun to go put it on so we ended up soaking wet and happy about it. Will definitely return.
