Great short hike to the lake, beautiful well cared for trails. And best of all its free. Has picnic tables if you want to picnic along the river part of the trail.

“'Goose' bumps”
Reviewed October 2, 2012

High Color Weekend. How can one not love Gooseberry Falls? I came as a child and have come again and again as an adult. The grounds are wonderful and since this area is classified as a Wayside Rest, there is no entrance fee. The visitor center is clean and beautiful and has wonderful bathrooms and a nice gift shop. Parking is free, plentiful, and close in.
The Falls themselves are nicely encircled by a well maintained easy hiking trail with paved walkways and easy steps when necessary. The wooded areas are breath-taking in their fall colors, so much so that a bridal party was taking photographs the day we were there.
Since it was a Friday, it wasn't as crowded as some of the other reviewers experienced.
The only unfortunate thing was that due to the lack of rain, the water going over the rocks was quite reduced and the falls were much smaller than normal. This just made for more rocks to climb over.
Parents should be watchful and careful of young children as the cliffs are steep and the rocks are sharp, but after noting that, climbing around on the falls and under the bridge is one of my favorite childhood memories.

“Holy People... all the time...”
Reviewed October 2, 2012

I love Gooseberry Falls. I've visited off season and enjoyed wandering by the falls and down by Lake Superior. However, I happened to visit this time during fall peak and gross. There's something to be said about making a park too accessible and promoting it too much. The super nice bathrooms and awesome gift shop and trailcenter are great. But the extra large parking lots and paved trails, along with lots of features in major magazines have left the park feeling a bit like an amusement park versus a state park. How many people can you cram in front of the falls and photograph at the same time? It was like the clown car. Just people everywhere you turned. And lots of them. I get it. It was fall peak and the falls are pretty. But what baffles me is just down the road are dozens of others falls, some of which are even prettier, but without the people. Then again, you can't pull your car up to those, grab a pop and candy, wander down a few steps, snap some shots like you are in the great wilderness and then drive on. I'll always love the park, especially the park where the river meets Lake Superior. But, I'll definitely avoid this place during any peak season.

Gooseberry park is a great place to visit when you come to Duluth or Two Harbor.
You can choose your what you want.
You have falls, hiking trails ranging from 1 mile to 20 miles, biking trails, falls, great for picnic.
Some part of the trail is accessible to wheelchair and there is space for parking RV or trailer

The park is well maintained and the visitor center has lot of information that you can use.

“Returned after 34 years”
Reviewed September 27, 2012

Came back for a visit after 34 years. The park is still wonderful. Great visitor center with interesting films about the area. Paths greatly improved, easy walking with quick access to falls and more remote areas. A lovely place to visit.
