Owner description: Shipwrecks from a mighty 1905 November gale prompted this rugged landmark's construction. Completed by the U.S. Lighthouse Service in 1910, Split Rock Light Station soon became one of Minnesota's best known landmarks. Restored to its 1920s appearance, the light station offers a glimpse of lighthouse life in this remote and spectacular setting. Split Rock Lighthouse is a National Historic Landmark.

“Beautiful anytime, Special Sunset on Nov. 10th”

Split Rock Lighthouse and State Park are both worth stopping at for a while. You can tour the lighthouse and grounds, visit the museum and hike the trails. Each year on November 10th at sunset the lighthouse is lit in memory of the Edmund Fitzgerald which went down that night in 1975.

“Slip back in time, and visit the light house.”

The grounds are cool, the view is amazing, but really, the lighthouse lantern is awesome, and worth the trip.

“Postcard Beautiful!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 18, 2012

easy to get to the lighthouse for all ages, on a windy day it can be frigid but exciting in the winter especially, fantastic view anytime of the year but extremely beautiful in the fall when the colors are changing, try to see it when the lighthouse gets lit for special occasions- its eerily haunting

“Great views”

This is a nice area for hiking or picnics. There is a rocky beach where the river enters Lake Superior that is fun for throwing rocks.
