I couldn't find somewhere to review it on it's own so since the intertwine I put it here. We got on at Gooseberry and rode to Beaver Bay and back. It's the North Shore so expect some hills. My wife had to walk a few times up them, but not much. Went in September and it was beautiful. Stop and walk down to see the divers at the Mediera shipwreck about a mile north of Split Rock.

I took 8 days from my schedule and drove up to the North Shore of Lake Superior in MN to hike sections of the Superior Hiking Trail, one of the premier hiking trails in the U.S. The trail is entirely maintained by members of the Superior Hiking Trail Association (SHTA) which is totally supported by memberships. I stayed 4 nights near Gooseberry Park and another 4 nights just N. of Lutsen, and hiked sections of the trail each day for a week, with the goal of hiking at least 10 miles each day. Mid-September is an excellent time to hike the Superior Trail: Cool, crisp invigorating air, no bugs to contend with, lovely scenery with the birch and maples changing color, and few other hikers on the trail. On two consecutive days, hiking about 18 miles total, I didn't encounter another hiker on the trail. All sections of the trail I hiked were memorable, but I especially enjoyed the trails in and around Gooseberry Falls State Park, the Split Rock River Loop, and the Cascade River Loop.

...waterfalls galore, low crowds away from 61, beautiful scenery and good restaurants and cabins everywhere--yet almost no chains and very quaint...do not miss it!
