This is a great location for North Shore excursions...you are only 1/2 hour from Duluth and you can jump off and drive to the many attractions on the North Shore. We had a $$ deal so we stayed two nights. I saw the restaurant had some mixed reviews but my wife and I actually a very nice dinner there. Service was very attentive and the food was good. So, would recommend Superior Shores if you have one of their special room rates.

I can't say enough good things about our weekend at Superior Shores. No problems with room reservations. Our suite was perfect...overlooking the lake, attractively decorated, very clean, with a huge bathroom/shower/jacuzzi area and lots of towels.
A perfect spot for a wedding...with all details efficiently managed by Nancy, the event manager. We capped it all off with breakfast on the deck outside the second floor restaurant.
A really great experience with lots of memories to take home.

we were at the resort for four days and founf the location great. the place has a lot of potential. we were with a large group and several of the groups reservations were screwed up and people did not get the room they reserved and charged extra for a suit when they did not ask for one. Others got handicap rooms when they did not ask or want one, the sink was to low and other things of inconvienience. the housekeeping never serviced our room, towels had to be requested they never cleaned the room while we were there and never made the bed and the floor never vacumed or mopped.

The place is generally nice and the catering manager was great and tried everything in her power to make things right but the management would not cooperate with her. We are returning and hoping it will be better next year or we will not schedule another event there.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a room number and exact description of the room in writing

Another nice weekend at Superior Shores. Got a great room with a fire place, jacuzzi, fireplace and lake view. Was pretty expensive though being a holiday weekend. Love the breakfast at there and especially the beach. Made some new friends at the fire ring at night. Will be back again.

We recently stayed at Superior Shores for a family reunion.
Positives:
1. location--close to Two Harbors
2. quick walk to Lake Superior
3. desk staff were friendy (but were understaffed upon check-in)

Negatives:
1. housekeeping--there was housekeeping? We returned to our room after our first day and the only sign that anyone had been in our room was my daughter's stuffed animal was arranged on the pillow and the trash had been emptied. Beds were NOT made and there was a very wet towel that needed replacing on the floor of the bathroom. The following day I was outside and saw the van load of local teens arriving wearing Superior Shores t-shirts. I presume this was the cleaning staff and explains the lack of housekeeping. I'm usually a good tipper, but I left no tip for this 'cleaning' staff.
2. price--overpriced. The decor needed freshening and the hallway was dim. Room was small. Full-size beds instead of queen (but there wouldn't have been room for queen beds.) Toilet/tub room was very small and there was only a little area next to the sink to put your toiletry items. The drawers under the TV needed replacing. All this added up to a small, dated room that needed some renovation.
3. No free breakfast

Summary--I won't stay here again.

My husband and I decided to take a quick vacation to the North Shore. I chose Superior Shores based on the reviews, but I was very careful to be SURE we rented one of the condos in Burlington Bay (the reviews of the hotel itself didnt sound too promising). We were absolutely thrilled with our one-bedroom condo/cabin. The room was spotless, the view was breathtaking, and the fireplaces and jacuzzi were all a giant bonus! I guess its all a matter of where you stay. We were on the first floor of Burlington Bay Unit 6--steps away from a tunnel leading to the gorgeous outdoor hot tub and pool. The unit was a touch light on some supplies, but luckily we had brought our "travel picnic basket" so we had extra cooking utensils, salt, pepper, etc. Yes, the grills are a bit outdated, but the rest of the accomodations more than made up for that. We were in room F130--as was another reviewer--and we really couldn't have been happier. I arrived home...promptly called my girlfriends and said, "We're booking a girls weekend at Superior Shores!" One other plus, Two Harbors is really a great middle point on the shore if you are traveling from the Twin Cities. You can spend time in Duluth one day, travel up to Two Harbors for the night, then spend the next day in Grand Marais or Ely, and have plenty of time to get back to Two Harbors for the night.

Room Tip: I think based on the input from other reviewers, I'd be sure and go for the Burlington Bay units...

My husband and two year old rented F130 one bedroom suite at Burlington Bay which is a first floor corner unit. We booked online through an internet special and were slightly worried about it as there were only two pictures on the website and there really aren't any details on the property or good pictures on TA that provided me with some assurance...
When we opened the door our jaws hit the floor - very nice room, gorgeous view and PLENTY of room and then some. Lots of light because of the great big windows... The room was very clean and everything was in working order. The deck has a table and chairs along with an electric grill... gorgeous views and sounds of Lake Superior.
My only negative comment about the room is that the housekeeping did not vacuum our room on our first full day. Kind of an issue when you have a 2 year old but we managed. They didn't get to clean our room on the 2nd day because we were in it so maybe they were going to vacuum then? We asked for more towels (all the other reviews about not enough towels are true) and they never showed up (so I helped myself when I saw the housekeeping cart on our last night). But these things really didn't bother us enough to put a bad taste in our mouth - no big deal. Our coffee maker died after the first pot and about 10 minutes after we called asking for another one - we had one. And on our last day we were cooped up in the room for "nap time" and so they couldn't get in to clean it for us but they left us all new towels, soup, dish rag coffee ... in a bag outside our door.
Our room was right next to the pool - this was intentional on our part. It was loud at night with other guests partying the night away. We just shut the windows and put on the air so we couldn't hear them...
Speaking of pool - wonderful! The hot tub is very large and has two "parts" on inside and outside. You simply swim through an entry way between the two. Our two year old LOVED that hot tub due to the bench all around the perimeter.
Check in was a breeze a Superior Shores. We got there an hour before check in time and our room wasn't ready so we went into town to get some groceries.
There are three buildings for Burlington Bay - "F" and "e" are on the ends and the middle is the pool and the "executive suites". Parking was plentiful even on the weekend when they were fully booked. All the parking is in the front of the three buildings.
There really is no privacy on the decks - you can talk to your neighbors if they are out.
You can NOT walk from Burlington Bay to Superior Shores unless you go back out to the highway and walk through a four wheeler trail (which we could not due because it had not been mowed).
Burlington bay has a nice "trail" down to the water... it's a little steep but a great walk down to the rocks shoreline. There is a bonfire pit down there.
We did eat at Superior Shores one day for lunch... basic bar food - nothing fancy - nachos and fried cheese... the waitress was very nice and put up with our moving around twice before we settled on an outdoor deck seat.
Other places we ate:
Black Woods - so so. Expensive for what you get and service not the best and they really weren't that busy...
Judy's Cafe - my husband’s favorite. It was your basic small town cafe.
Lemon Wolfe (in Beaver Bay) - my favorite. Great reviews on Trip Advisor are all correct!
Louise’s Place - wonderful breakfast... just like visiting grandma’s house with all of the "quilts" and stuff around...

Room Tip: the F building all has great view but E has trees blocking so if you are lower floor you won't s...
